Training and Coaching:
Cross country training - From September to March Endurance coaches John Danahay and Kevin Hendricken supervise grass based repetition sessions on a Tuesday night at Staffs University playing fields off Leek Road from 6.30pm and hilly cross country sessions also at Staffs university on a Saturday morning at 10.00am if not racing. Anyone welcome if they really want to improve their cross country performances. If you need more details contact jdanahay@freeuk.com 

City of Stoke AC Ladies Athletics and Running Group -
Nicola Quinlan has started a group  catering for all abilities from beginners. The aim is that all will be able to run a 5k race (if they want to) at the end of 10 weeks training. Cost is just £10 for the full 10 weeks. Why not ask your mum, sister, aunty, grandma or friend if they would like to have a go? Contact Nicola for more details - 07964 858 141

City of Stoke AC have a thriving young athletics team but desperately need additional coaches in all disciplines. Former athletes are ideal, but many of our top coaches just started off as parents and supporters. Anyone from age 17 upwards can become a UKA qualified coach. Where possible the club will assist with course costs. Please contact Club Secretary Iris Morris if interested.

- Saturday August 22nd at Northwood Stadium - Entry form and event details

NEW! City of Stoke AC parents, coaches and associates are attempting the National 3 Peaks Challenge.
On 1st/ 2nd August 2015, 11 participants from the club will be completing the National 3 Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pile and Snowdon) in 24 hours, in order to raise much needed funds for the City of Stoke AC. - In the latest Youth Development League Lower Age Group match at Stoke the club's youngest athletes finished 5th. Well done all in this really high quality competition Full Results

17 July 2015 - Llorenc Sales Ferre moved even closer to World Class 1500m running with a brilliant 3.38.64 clocking in Barcelona. Competing in the B race Alex Brecker gained massive foreign race experience finishing in 3.50.45.

- A number of the club's middle distance runners were in action at the BMC Grand Prix at Oxford. Dean Richardson ran the 4th fastest Mile time ever by a British M40 Master with a big new PB of 4.22.82. Kate Holt finished a strong 5th in the Women's 1500m A race in 4.21.76 with Lucy Hayes gaining a lot of experience with 4.32.13 in the same race. Kate Anderson set a great new 800m PB of 2.13.10 finishing second, as did Dave Sheldon with 1.54.56. In the men's open mile Oliver Langford improved his PB to 4.29 finishing 2nd in his race - full BMC results

17 July 2015 - Running for his Fell Running Club Mercia Will Neill finished a brilliant 2nd in the Ingleborough Mountain Race and earned himself an England call-up for the Home Counties International in August.

11-12 July 2015 - Congratulations to our two English Schools Champions at Gateshead - Chloe Esegbona won the Intermediate Girls 300m Hurdles in a PB and Club Record time of 43.87. William Knight threw the discus 48.62m to win the Senior Boys Discus competition. Great performances too from Lucy Holt 6th in the final of the Senior Girls 3000m, Josh Billington 6th in a semi-final of the Senior Boys 100m, Callum Shaw 6th in a semi-final of the Intermediate Boys 200m, Seamus Derbyshire 7th in a semi-final of the Intermediate Boys 100m Hurdles, Cameron Steven 4th in a heat of the Intermediate Boys 200m, Evian Johns 3rd in a heat of the Intermediate Boys 400m, Kene Okolo 12th in the Junior Boys Triple Jump, Sol Whitehurst 16th in the Junior Boys Discus - Full Results

- The club's senior athletes performed brilliantly despite a weakened team finishing 4th in the Midlands Track and Field League in Newport, South Wales - full results

- Well done to Jazmin Sawyers and Kate Holt who were the club's representatives at the National Track and Field Championships in Birmingham. Jazmin leapt to 6.51m in the long jump, a seasons best as she finished 4th in the final. Kate very narrowly missed out on the final of the 1500m as she ran 4.24.68 for 6th in her heat.

- Berryhill 10k results and Junior 2k results. Photos from Bryan Dale and Mick Hall. Congratulations to the winners Simon Myatt and Wendy Mullineux of Trentham Running Club, and great to see City of Stoke runners Seb Duffy and Gary Castrey returning from long term injuries taking 2nd and 3rd places overall. Nicola Quinlan was the first City of Stoke lady at this years event. There was also an excellent turn-out of Stoke AC juniors for the 2k race, won by James Condlyffe with clubmate Luke Ash not far behind. Olivia Ball from Trentham was the first female finisher in an excellent 4th overall with Maisie Tinwell the first Stoke AC finisher in 8th overall. Many thanks to everyone who supported this event.

- A number of the club's middle distance specialists were in action at the latest Trafford Open / BMC Meeting. Star performer was our Catalan athlete Llorenc Sales Ferre who demolished the field in the BMC 800m running a season's best of 1.48.57. Like Llorenc Alex Brecker ran his 2nd race in 4 days as he finished 4th in a very tight 1500m race in a second best ever time of 3.48.85. Dean Richardson improved his season's 1500m best to 4.08.48 to remain 2nd on the UK M40 rankings for 2015. Malcolm Atkins put in a gutsy performance to finish 2nd in his first ever 1500m in 4.35.88. In the 800s Dan Harris was very close to a lifetime best with 2.06.01 whilst Louis Wrigley 1.59.48 and Megan Cogan 2.25.06 also put in consistent performances.

- City of Stoke's U17 and u20 athletes yet again dominated their latest match with a big win in the Youth Development League at Derby with some outstanding individual and relay performances - full results

27-28 June 2015
- Multi-eventer Seamus Derbyshire continued his relentless improvement as he competed in the Combined Events North West Regional Finals at Bebington, representing Staffordshire Schools in the Octathlon. He achieved personal bests in three events which were the long jump (5m99), 100 Hurdles (13.70secs) and 1500m (4min42.4). He finished as overall winner with a points total of 3929 which is another PB, and now goes on to represent Staffordshire in the National Finals over the weekend of 19/20th September.

- Llorenc Sales Ferre, Alex Brecker and Dave Sheldon represented the club at the highest quality domestic middle distance meeting of the year at the BMC Watford Grand Prix. Llorenc finished 5th in the 1500m A race with a time of 3.40.17, very close to a lifetime best. Alex was 3rd in the 1500m C race with a PB of 3.47.76 whilst Dave ran his second best ever time in the 1500m F race with 3.56.44 - full results

- Michelle Ross Cope's win and course record of 74.31 in the Potters Arf today was just the latest in a string of outstanding road race performances. On 3 May at the Birmingham Great Run 10k she won in 34.27 on a hilly course. On 10 May she finished 11th and 4th Brit at the Manchester Great Run 10k in 33.38, and on 31 May she finished 2nd in the Birmingham 10k in 33.57. Well done Michelle, a fabulous comeback after a serious achilles injury!

14 June 2015 - Middle distance runners Kate Holt and Lucy Hayes dominated the SW 1500m with a brilliant 1-2 at the Midland Track and Field Championships at Birmingham in times of 4.28.48 and 4.35.56 respectively. Kate Anderson won the SW 400m in 57.26 and Shelly Brace took Bronze in the SW 800m with 2.21.62. Not to be outdone Alex Brecker and Dave Sheldon finished 1st and 3rd in the SM 800m. In a tactical race Alex burst away from the field in the final 50m to take the title in 1.55.68 with Dave close behind in 1.56.30. Louis Wrigley was 7th in the same race with 1.59.85. Strongman William Knight took Gold in the U20m Shot with 14.47m and Silver in the U20M Discus with 47.95m

- At the latest Trafford Open Meeting U20 Lucy Holt again produced a strong performance in the 3000m as she finished just outside her season's best with 10.02.22. Korey Blanch-Hallett set a seasons best of 2.00.13 in the 800m and M40 Dean Richardson moved to 5th on the UK Masters ranking with 2.02.01 in the 800m. Dan Harris also set a seasons best with 2.07.60.

- With a number of excellent individual and relay performances City of Stoke's youngest Athletes finished 5th in the Youth Development League match at Birmingham - full results

30 May 2015 - Kate Holt was the lead performer for Stoke at the BMC Grand Prix meeting at Sports city with a brilliant 4.18.72 PB for 1500m. Lucy Hayes also ran well with 4.30.51, just outside her best. For the men Alex Brecker set a season's best in his opening 1500m race of the season with 3.49.60. Perhaps most impressively Dave Sheldon improved his PB by another 2 seconds to 3.52.79.

25 May 2015
- Lucy Holt competed in her first UK Championships 10k Road Race at the BUPA 10k in London. Warm and windy conditions slowed everyone down but Lucy ran strongly for her 38.09 clocking.

Loads of Stoke AC winners and medallists in the Staffordshire County Track and Field Championships at Stoke - full results

At the Cheshire Championships Chloe Esegbona had a great weekend with 3 wins over the two day event: U17 80m Hurdles 11.80, U17 300m 40.63 (Championship Best Performance), U17 300m Hurdles 44.52 (Championship Best Performance)

- Dave Sheldon set a new 1500m PB of 3.57.00 in finishing 4th in the guest race at at the Loughborough International meeting.

In the BMC Grand Prix meeting at Stretford Kate Holt was just outside a lifetime best as she ran 4.21.89 for 1500m. U20 Lucy Hayes with 4.35..8 and U17 Georgia Rafferty also ran strongly for a SB of 4.36.95 - full results

- U20 Lucy Holt made her debut over 10000m in the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10000 PBs and England Athletics 10000m Championships running a time of 37.14 in tough conditions.

- At the British Universities Track and Field Championships in Bedford there were some excellent early season performances by Stoke AC athletes. Jazmin Sawyers won the Long Jump in 6.15m and also set a 100m PB of 12.56 in a semi final of the 100m. Lucy Hayes finished 5th in the Women's 1500m final in a PB of 4.29.58. Emily Moore ran 13.78 for a 100m SB in her heat. In the 1500m heats Louis Wrigley set a SB of 4.13.39 and Korey Blanch-Hallett a PB of 4.22.83 respectively. James Taylor raced to a massive PB of 53.54 in the semi final of the 400m Hurdles

2 May 2015 - Despite a depleted team it was a brilliant effort by the U13s and U15s to finish 5th in the National Youth Development League at Milton Keynes - results.

- There was a good quality turn-out of Stoke AC athletes at Congleton Parkrun. Will Neill improved his best to 15.57 for 2nd place. Seb Duffy and Tom Hendricken also returned to Parkrun action with 3rd and 4th places in 16.44 and 17.35 respectively. Not to be out done Lucy Holt was a comfortable first finisher for the women in 18.23

- Excellent 10k run from Lucy Holt as she finishes 2nd at the Crewe Air Products 10k in 36.19. Tom Hendricken also starting to return to form with 35.26

- In the Midlands 12 Stage Road Relays at Sutton Park City of Stoke's senior men were the only North Staffordshire men's team to qualify for the National Road Relays this year as they finished in a creditable 13th place despite illness and late withdrawals. Alex Brecker was fastest on the long legs with 29.10, with an excellent run from Will Neill only 1 second behind. Fastest of the short legs came from Dave Sheldon with an strong run in 16.40. - Michelle Ross-Cope brushed aside 3 years of injury as she flew round the Wilmslow Half Marathon in an outstanding 72.36 to finish 2nd behind a Kenyan athlete. Middle distance specialist Dean Richardson also showed that age is no barrier as he improved to 72.00 in the same race - full results

14 March 2015 - Lucy Holt and Alex Brecker put in strong performances as they represented the Midlands in the Antrim International Cross Country. Lucy finished an excellent 12th in the U20 Women's race with Alex 30th in a top class men's field - full results

14 March 2015 - There were some good performances by City of Stoke athletes competing for Staffordshire at the English Schools Cross country Championships in Blackburn - full results

- City of Stoke AC's women were at the forefront of some excellent Staffordshire performances at the Inter-counties Cross Country Championships in Birmingham.  Michelle Ross-Cope was 4th in the senior women with a fabulous run which saw her just 1 second away from a bronze medal. Also in the senior women Kate Holt was a strong 9th. Lucy Holt showed increased endurance from her road racing with 8th in the U20 women and Georgia Rafferty matched that in the U17s showing the real strength in depth of Alan's Morris's training group. Among the boys and men we had good representation throughout the age-groups without these top level finishes so plenty of work to do lads! Full results

- More International representative selections for Stoke AC Athletes! Congratulations to Dominic Gregory (U17) and Lauren Gregory (U15) who have been selected to represent GB at the Catholic Schools International Games in Malta in July. The FISEC Games is one of 2 world competitions for school based sport. The competition is recognised by the International Olympic Committee and follows international rules. This year the GB athletics team consists of 17 squad members. U23 Alex Brecker has been selected to run for the Midlands in the International Cross Country meeting at Antrim on March 14th - a reward for his consistently good performances this season including a top 5 finish in the Birmingham Cross Country League.

21 February 2015
- Just 4 members of the club's senior team represented the club at the National XC Championships at Parliament hill in London this year. Alex Brecker continued his great XC form with a strong run in 68th overall out of 2005 finishers. Will Neill also ran well for 152nd with Tom Hendricken overcoming injury in 549th. Team manager and senior men's coach John Danahay was on a mission to finish after dropping out on this course 11 years ago as he trotted through the field from the back to get up to 573rd. Maybe not quite the distance she wanted but still a great bronze medal for Jazmin Sawyers who leapt to 6.32m in the long jump at the Sainsburys UK Indoor Championships in Sheffield - results

14-15 February 2015
- In the Midland Indoor Championships at the NIA in Birmingham, there were a number of outstanding performances from our young sprinters, jumpers and throwers Sprinter Bret Okeke led the way with a brilliant win in the U17 men's 60 with 7.12. Megan Cogan also ran strongly to win the U20 women's 800m in 2.26.16 and Morris Fox won the Shot with 13.56m. Chloe Burns zipped to a great silver in the U17 women's 60m hurdles with 9.15. Joel Mann picked up a bronze medal in the U20 men's 800m with 1.57.40 in a very competitive field as did Shelley Brace in the senior women's 800m in 2.22.11. Seamus Derbyshire also won a bronze in the U17 men's 60m hurdles in 8.74 - Sentinel report and full results

- The club's senior men finished a creditable 5th in the final Division One fixture of of the Birmingham Cross Country League at Cheltenham and 6th overall in the league out of 16 teams. This confirms the club as the best cross country team in the North Staffordshire area. Top man in his best finish so far was Alex Brecker with junior Dave Sheldon also improving to 25th after a great battle with Will Neill who recorded his best result of the season in 27th. 4th man was super reliable master Steve Bazell in 45th with Nic Barber finishing in the top 50 for the first time with 48th. The essential 6th man on this occasion was Callum Dillon who really got the best out of his relative unfitness to finish 85th. It was a pity we only had 6 men finish on the day, but the result was still an excellent one. And special thanks to Kevin Hendricken who ran two laps just in case anyone dropped out with injury - full results and Sentinel report.

- City of Stoke's senior women bought home another team trophy with some great running in the Alsager 5 Road Race. Top finisher and 3rd woman overall was Kate Holt in a PB of 28.07, with U17 Georgia Rafferty not far behind in a PB 28.56. They were backed up by Louise Dawson who ran a PB 31.58. Continuing a good day for the ladies on the road Tracy Bloor ran a PB of 33.55 with Nicola Quinlan very close to a PB with 37.16. - full results
