Training and Coaching:
Cross country training - From September to March Endurance coaches John Danahay and Kevin Hendricken supervise grass based repetition sessions on a Tuesday night at Staffs University playing fields off Leek Road from 6.30pm and hilly cross country sessions also at Staffs university on a Saturday morning at 10.00am if not racing. Anyone welcome if they really want to improve their cross country performances. If you need more details contact jdanahay@freeuk.com 

City of Stoke AC Ladies Athletics and Running Group -
Nicola Quinlan has started a group  catering for all abilities from beginners. The aim is that all will be able to run a 5k race (if they want to) at the end of 10 weeks training. Cost is just £10 for the full 10 weeks. Why not ask your mum, sister, aunty, grandma or friend if they would like to have a go? Contact Nicola for more details - 07964 858 141

Do you think you can coach athletics?
City of Stoke AC have a thriving young athletics team but desperately need additional coaches in all disciplines. Former athletes are ideal, but many of our top coaches just started off as parents and supporters. Anyone from age 17 upwards can become a UKA qualified coach. Where possible the club will assist with course costs. Please contact Club Secretary Iris Morris if interested.

- Michelle Ross-Cope brushed aside 3 years of injury as she flew round the Wilmslow Half Marathon in an outstanding 72.36 to finish 2nd behind a Kenyan athlete. Middle distance specialist Dean Richardson also showed that age is no barrier as he improved to 72.00 in the same race - full results

14 March 2015 - Lucy Holt and Alex Brecker put in strong performances as they represented the Midlands in the Antrim International Cross Country. Lucy finished an excellent 12th in the U20 Women's race with Alex 30th in a top class men's field - full results

14 March 2015 - There were some good performances by City of Stoke athletes competing for Staffordshire at the English Schools Cross country Championships in Blackburn - full results

7 March 2015
- City of Stoke AC's women were at the forefront of some excellent Staffordshire performances at the Inter-counties Cross Country Championships in Birmingham.  Michelle Ross-Cope was 4th in the senior women with a fabulous run which saw her just 1 second away from a bronze medal. Also in the senior women Kate Holt was a strong 9th. Lucy Holt showed increased endurance from her road racing with 8th in the U20 women and Georgia Rafferty matched that in the U17s showing the real strength in depth of Alan's Morris's training group. Among the boys and men we had good representation throughout the age-groups without these top level finishes so plenty of work to do lads! Full results

28 February 2015
- More International representative selections for Stoke AC Athletes! Congratulations to Dominic Gregory (U17) and Lauren Gregory (U15) who have been selected to represent GB at the Catholic Schools International Games in Malta in July. The FISEC Games is one of 2 world competitions for school based sport. The competition is recognised by the International Olympic Committee and follows international rules. This year the GB athletics team consists of 17 squad members. U23 Alex Brecker has been selected to run for the Midlands in the International Cross Country meeting at Antrim on March 14th - a reward for his consistently good performances this season including a top 5 finish in the Birmingham Cross Country League.

21 February 2015
- Just 4 members of the club's senior team represented the club at the National XC Championships at Parliament hill in London this year. Alex Brecker continued his great XC form with a strong run in 68th overall out of 2005 finishers. Will Neill also ran well for 152nd with Tom Hendricken overcoming injury in 549th. Team manager and senior men's coach John Danahay was on a mission to finish after dropping out on this course 11 years ago as he trotted through the field from the back to get up to 573rd. Maybe not quite the distance she wanted but still a great bronze medal for Jazmin Sawyers who leapt to 6.32m in the long jump at the Sainsburys UK Indoor Championships in Sheffield - results

14-15 February 2015
- In the Midland Indoor Championships at the NIA in Birmingham, there were a number of outstanding performances from our young sprinters, jumpers and throwers Sprinter Bret Okeke led the way with a brilliant win in the U17 men's 60 with 7.12. Megan Cogan also ran strongly to win the U20 women's 800m in 2.26.16 and Morris Fox won the Shot with 13.56m. Chloe Burns zipped to a great silver in the U17 women's 60m hurdles with 9.15. Joel Mann picked up a bronze medal in the U20 men's 800m with 1.57.40 in a very competitive field as did Shelley Brace in the senior women's 800m in 2.22.11. 7 February 2015
- The club's senior men finished a creditable 5th in the final Division One fixture of of the Birmingham Cross Country League at Cheltenham and 6th overall in the league out of 16 teams. This confirms the club as the best cross country team in the North Staffordshire area. Top man in his best finish so far was Alex Brecker with junior Dave Sheldon also improving to 25th after a great battle with Will Neill who recorded his best result of the season in 27th. 4th man was super reliable master Steve Bazell in 45th with Nic Barber finishing in the top 50 for the first time with 48th. The essential 6th man on this occasion was Callum Dillon who really got the best out of his relative unfitness to finish 85th. It was a pity we only had 6 men finish on the day, but the result was still an excellent one. And special thanks to Kevin Hendricken who ran two laps just in case anyone dropped out with injury - full results and Sentinel report.

1 February 2015
- City of Stoke's senior women bought home another team trophy with some great running in the Alsager 5 Road Race. Top finisher and 3rd woman overall was Kate Holt in a PB of 28.07, with U17 Georgia Rafferty not far behind in a PB 28.56. They were backed up by Louise Dawson who ran a PB 31.58. Continuing a good day for the ladies on the road Tracy Bloor ran a PB of 33.55 with Nicola Quinlan very close to a PB with 37.16. - full results

There were some excellent Stoke AC performances in the Staffordshire Schools Championships at Stoke with wins for Callum McQueen (Senior Boys), Lucy Holt (Senior Girls), Georgia Rafferty (Intermediate Girls) and Danny Meredith (Junior Boys)  - full results

24 January 2015
- U17 Georgia Rafferty led the way for Stoke as she brilliantly won her age-group race in the Midlands Cross Country Championships at Nottingham. Other top performers included Lucy Holt who finished 4th in the U20 women and Sarah Lovewell who was 7th in the same category. Callum McQueen finished 6th in the U17 men, and Alex Brecker 19th in the senior men. Full results

City of Stoke's Catalonian middle distance runner Llorenc Sales Ferre set a great new indoor 1500m PB of 3.44.69 at the Control Rfea Sabadell meeting.

18-19 January 2015 - Brilliant runs by the club's high hurdlers at the Northern Indoor Championships. U17 Chloe Esegbona won the Gold medal in the 60m Hurdles with 8.93 secs and senior man James Taylor took Silver in 8.68 sec - full results

- There were a number of excellent early season performances by the club's younger sprinters and hurdlers at the Midland Counties Indoor Open meeting in Birmingham - full results

At Coventry the club's senior men cemented their position in the top half of Division One of the Birmingham Cross Country League. They were led home by a superb run from Alex Brecker who finished in his highest ever position of 6th - full results

Kate Holt performed strongly for Great Britain as she finished 29th in a stellar field at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country International race.

- A superb City of Stoke AC medal haul in the Staffordshire Cross Country Championships at Wolverhampton. Gold medallists included Kate Holt (SW), Lucy Holt (JW), Georgia Rafferty (U17W), Dean Richardson (Masters), U13 Boys Team, U15 Boys Team, U20 Womens Team, Senior Womens Team. Silver medallists: Lauren Gregory (U15G), James Condlyffe (U15B), Lucy Hayes (U20W), Dave Sheldon (U20M), Alex Brecker (SM), Senior Mens Team, Junior Mens Team. - Congratulations to Kate Holt on a fabulous run for GB at the European Cross Country Championships in Bulgaria. Kate finished 20th and was a member of the silver medal winning U23 team - UK Athletics report

13 December 2014
- Great results and final league positions in the final North Staffs XC League race of the season at Leek. Race wins for Morgan Meredith U11 boys, Callum McQueen U17 men and Lucy Holt, junior and senior women. Lucy was also junior and senior League Champion and Callum McQueen U17 silver medallist. Tasha Stone was junior womens silver medallist. Louise Dawson was the W40 League Champion. Tracy Bloor was W35 bronze medallist. The senior women won the Division Two title and are promoted to Division One. The senior men won the Division One title for the 3rd year in a row with Steve Bazell M40 Bronze medallist. In the younger age-groups the U13 boys were 2nd team, as were the U11 and U15 girls. The U13 girls were 3rd team. 29 November 2014 -
At the British Athletics Cross Challenge and European Trials in Liverpool there was the best turnout of City of Stoke athletes for a long time. In the senior women Kate Holt produced an outstanding performance to finish 16th with marathon runner Michelle Ross Cope close behind in 23rd and Lucy Hayes in 72nd. U17 Georgia Rafferty also excelled with 2nd in her category. Top male finisher was Callum McQueen in the U17 men with 23rd, beating his local rivals for the first time. Alex Brecker produced one of his best cross country runs so far as he finished 87th in the senior men's race. Oliver Langford also performed strongly in 137th. The U13 Boys top performer was Charlie Smith in 24th. The U15 boys were led home by Casey Maddock in 32nd. Full results

- Despite the Inter Schools competition on the same day there was another strong showing by City of Stoke athletes at the 3rd North Staffs XC league meeting at Parkhall. Top performers again were the women's team with Lucy Holt dominating from start to finish as she led her team to an easy win in Division Two with a lower points total than any of the Division One teams. Alex Brecker also dominated the senior men's race and although a weakened men's team were beaten by a couple of points they strengthened their hold on the overall league title. In the younger age groups Callum McQueen ran a strong race to finish 2nd U17. Megan Cogan was 3rd in the U17 Women. Libby Andrzejewsk was 5th in the U11 Girls. Beth Sharpley was 5th in the U15 Girls. - Stoke AC's senior men led by Alex Brecker with a strong run in 10th, made a positive start to a new season in Division One of the Birmingham Cross Country League with 7th place out of 16 teams. Best ever XC runs from M40 Dean Richardson in 31st, U20 Dave Sheldon in 33rd, and great packing from the ever reliable Steve Bazell in 62nd, the returning Tom Gayle in 75th, fell runner Nic Barber in 92nd, team manager M50 John Danahay in 101st, U20 Macauley Snutch in his first Birmingham League in 198th, and Stoke AC stalwart 69 year old Richard Barrington in 277th. 1 November 2014 -
A brilliant Bronze for the 2nd year in a row from the Stoke AC senior women was the highlight of the club's strong turn-out in the National XC Relays at Mansfield. After a great start by Kate Holt in 7th, Michelle Ross Cope pulled the team through to 3rd which youngster Lucy Hayes maintained through to the finish behind super clubs Aldershot, Farnham and District and Birchfield. Another outstanding performance was by U17 woman Georgia Rafferty who led the first leg home and set the day's 2nd fastest time in her age-group. 25 October 2014
- There were some great individual and team results at the 2nd North Staffs XC League event at Stafford Common. The club's senior men led by Alex Brecker in 2nd place took first team, whilst the senior ladies led by Lucy Holt yet again dominated their race in Division Two, scoring lower points than the top Division One teams. Other top Stoke AC performers in each age group included James Condliffe 2nd in the U15 Boys and Abbie Lewis 2nd in the U11 Girls. In the U17 men Callum McQueen returned from injury with 3rd. Morgan Meredith was 5th in the U11 boys as was Bethany Sharpley in the U15 girls. Callum Moss was 6th in the U13 boys. - Congratulations to Lucy Holt who won the Werrington 10k road race in 38.14. Another youngster Jessica Heath also set a PB of 46.27 - full results

- Youngster Lucy Holt again showed she is quickly learning how to race on the roads with a comprehensive win overall in the Congleton Quarter Marathon - full results

20-21 September 2014
- The National Schools Combined Events Final was held at Boston, Lincolnshire. There were 42 competitors in the under 15's event and Seamus Derbyshire was one of only two athletes that qualified to represent Staffordshire Schools. His performances included personal bests for combined events in the 80m hurdles, shot putt, high jump and 800m and a long jump that he had only once previously beaten. It gave him an overall points score of 2597 which is a PB in itself for the combined events. Seamus finished in a superb 9th place overall.

20 September 2014
- Brilliant performances by the U13 and U15 boys saw both teams take Bronze medals in the Midlands Young Athletes Road Relays at Sutton Park. Fastest U13 was Callum Moss with 14.10 whilst quickest U15 was Jack Wakefield with 13.12. Full results

- Although far from full strength the club's senior men squeezed their way into the National Road Relay Championships with a solid performance in the Midlands 6 Stage Road Relays at Sutton Park. Top individual performer was Marc Hartley with 19.31 for the 3.7 mile course - full results

- Following some good performances over 5k in local Park Runs, City of Stoke junior Lucy Holt showed her endurance as she finished 2nd lady in 37.44 on her debut over the distance at the East Coast Classic 10k at Mablethorpe - full results

14 September 2014 - Steve Bazell showed that 6 months since his last race and passing his 40th birthday was no barrier to finishing well up in the Stoke 10k. Steve finished an amazing 5th overall in 36.10 wearing a nurses outfit as practise for his attempt on the Half Marathon World Record in the outfit at the Birmingham Half in October for Charity. If you want to sponsor Steve - full details here. The club also had a great turnout of ladies, a number of whom were making their debut over 10k. Nicola Quinlan's beginners group showed they have come a long way in less than a year. Nicola led the way with 45.46 with daughter India Mellor close behind in 46.11.The other Stoke ladies were Debbie Nixon in 62.37, Yvonne Jones 62.37, Jane Stanyer 62.37,  Dawn Latham 62.41 and Tracy Chevin 64.28. 14 year old Lucas Jones also completed his first 10k in 47.03 - full results and a photo of the Stoke Ladies
