Training and Coaching:
City of Stoke AC Ladies Athletics and Running Group - Nicola Quinlan has started a group  catering for all abilities from beginners. The aim is that all will be able to run a 5k race (if they want to) at the end of 10 weeks training. Cost is just £10 for the full 10 weeks. Sunday morning endurance runs - Keele University Leisure Centre Car Park at 10.00am most Sundays. Distance 4-16 miles mostly off-road, pace 6.00-8.00min miles. Former athletes are ideal, but many of our top coaches just started off as parents and supporters. Anyone from age 17 upwards can become a UKA qualified coach. - City of Stoke AC's men's team finished in a credible 40th place at the National 12 Stage Road Relays at Sutton Park. Fastest Stoke AC short leg was Alex Brecker with 13.23 for the 2.6 mile short leg whilst Seb Duffy with 27.11 was the fastest over the 5.1 mile long leg - full results and photos from Bryan Dale

- Louise Dawson ran brilliantly to finish 3rd lady in 41.21 and take the Staffordshire 10k Road Championship silver medal at the Newcastle 10k. Louise's sister Tracy Bloor also ran strongly to finish in a PB of 44.02 - full results and photos from Bryan Dale. At the Cheshire 10k Dan Barker continued his comeback with a PB 34.33 clocking - full results, whilst new signing Gareth Hollins also set a PB of 36.52 at the Helena Tipping Memorial 10k at Wrexham. M45 Darren Washington who is coaching Gareth was just behind in 37.34. City of Stoke AC long/triple jumper James Gardner also showed his aerobic fitness with a 10k debut in 48.16 - full results

- Despite an astonishing travel itinery Stoke AC's throws coach Morris Fox finished an excellent 4th in a highly competitive M50 category in the Shot Put at the World Masters Indoor Championships in Budapest with a SB of 14.49m. Morris pronounced himself disappointed with the result and suggested that there was a lot more to come from him this year!

16 March 2014
- City of Stoke's senior men qualified comfortably for the National road relays as they finished 11th overall and top local club in the Midlands 12 Stage Road Relays at Sutton Park. Top performer on the 2.7 mile short stage was Alex Brecker with 13.40 for 2nd fastest on stage 4 and 11th overall fastest time. On the 5.1 mile long stage Seb Duffy coming back from injury recorded 27.43 for 14th fastest on his stage - full results

15 March 2014
- A number of City of Stoke youngsters competed at the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Castle Donnington. Top performer was Georgia Rafferty who continued her great run of form finishing 11th in the intermediate girls despite being in the first year of the age-group. Lucy Holt also performed very strongly with 19th in her first year in the senior girls. Jack Wakefield was the best performer for the boys as he finished 57th in the junior boys age-group - full results

8-9 March 2014
- At the England Athletics U15/U17 Combined Events Championships at Sheffield there was an outstanding performance by Seamus Derbyshire in his first ever multi-event competition. Seamus finished with a gold medal as the Midlands Champion and 8th place in the overall competition. It was a strong field of 24 competitors from as far afield as Inverness, Bournemouth and South Wales. His individual performances were 9.33 seconds for the 60m hurdles, which was 4th fastest in the whole competition (He had not even ran the full 60m in training before), he then produced a long jump of 5.45m, his previous best in training was 5.25, high jump he cleared 1.59m against a previous training best of 1.56m, he threw the shot 6.02m, and finished the day with an 800m time of 2:24.40 - Well done Seamus! In the U17 men's competition Aaron Bedson returning after a major foot injury finished 19th but will surely pick up a lot now he is back in one piece - Full results

8 March 2014 -
City of Stoke AC athletes competed with distinction in the Inter-counties Cross Country Championships at Cofton Park, Birmingham. Best performance again came from U15 Georgia Rafferty who finished agonisingly just outside the medals in 5th. There were also top runs from Jack Wakefield 15th in the U13 Boys and Lucy Holt 15th in the U17 Women. Elsewhere top Stoke AC finishers in the age-groups were Dave Sheldon 53rd in the Junior Men, Oliver Langford making his debut for Lancashire with 138th in the senior men, Bethany Sharpley 140th in the U13 Girls, Lucy Hayes 145th in the Senior Women, and Casey Maddock 218th in the U15 Boys - full results

1-2 March 2014
- A number of City of Stoke AC athletes achieved good performances and PBs in the England Athletics 15/U17 and U20 Indoor Championships at Sheffield - U15 Boy Cameron Steven set a new PB of 5.77m in the long jump to win a Bronze Medal. Josh Billington set a PB of 7.15 and Oliver Sawyers a PB of 7.35 in the U20 men's 60m. Chloe Burns ran 8.46 in the U17 women's 60m and Ellie Shaw 8.65 in the U15 girls 60m. Emelia Berrisford ran a PB of 41.52 in the U17 women's 300m. Liam Hebblethwaite ran 49.94 in the U20 men's 400m and finished 5th in the final. Joel Mann also finished 5th in the U17 men's 800m final with a PB of 2.00.31 Dave Sheldon ran 4.05.34 to finish 7th in the U20 men's 1500m final - full results

- U15 Georgia Rafferty was the club's top performer in the National XC Championships at Nottingham with a brilliant 4th in her age-group. Elsewhere top club finishers in the age-groups were U13 Boys 19th Jack Wakefield, U13 Girls 127th Danni Maddox, U15 Boys 201st Casey Maddock, U17 Men 85th Callum McQueen, U17 Women 15th Lucy Holt, Junior Men 36th Alex Brecker, Senior Men 157th Will Neill, Senior Women 21st Kate Holt - full results

- Jazmin Sawyers produced a seasons best as she won silver in the Long Jump at the British Athletics Indoors Championships at Sheffield with a leap of 6.44m - full results

8-9 February 2014 - There was a good turnout of youngsters and a number of excellent performances from Stoke AC athletes in the Midlands Indoors Championships at the NIA including a Midlands Gold for super vet Morris Fox in the Shot Put - full results

- In the final fixture of the Birmingham XC League at Cheltenham a tough battle for 4th spot in the league saw City of Stoke AC's senior men prevail by just 11 points over Birchfield Harriers and also hold off a determined charge from home team Cheltenham. This was our best team result for 10 years. Recovering from injury junior Alex Brecker was our top finisher in 15th with the squad yet again showing that we may not have large numbers of athletes but we are fiercely competitive and have improving strength in depth - results - full report from Seb Duffy

- Middle Distance Track International Emma Jackson showed excellent endurance to finish 4th lady at the Alsager 5 Road Race in a time of 27.21. Emma also led the Stoke ladies team to a brilliant team win with great runs from Kate Holt (28.15 PB) and Tracy Bloor (34.30 PB). Not far behind was India Mellor in 35.01 and Nicola Quinlan in 37.01. The lads were led home by the ever improving Oliver Langford in a PB 26.11 with Marc Hartley on 27.05 and Dave Bratt on 28.36. - There were loads of outstanding City of Stoke AC performances in the Midlands Cross Country Championships at Leamington. Georgia Rafferty and Lucy Hayes won the U15 Girls and U20 Women's races. The U20 Women's team were 2nd and the U15 Girls team were 3rd. Kate Holt produced one of her best runs as a senior athlete to finish a close second in the senior women's race. The U13 Girls team led by Naomi Bedwell in 22nd also picked up a bronze medal. Lucy Holt was a strong 6th in the U17 Women. Top placings in the boys were Callum Moss, 34th place in the U13s, Casey Maddock 42nd in the U15s. Callum McQueen finished a strong 12th in the U17 men whilst Tom Hendricken showed a return to form with 18th in the U20s. In the toughest conditions of the day Will Neill produced his best senior performance over the country so far in 18th place to lead the senior men's team to 4th overall and a medal for the most improved team in the Midlands - full results

- M45 road running master Darren Washington ran 81.44 in his 81st Half Marathon at the Four Villages Half at Helsby.

- U15 Georgia Rafferty won Silver at the Cardiff Cross Challenge event. She was leading the race until a big fall in the thick mud dropped her back to 6th but then produced a great recovery for 2nd. In the senior men's race Will Neill making his debut representing the Midlands finished in 34th place in a strong field - full results

- At the Midlands Masters Cross Country in Wolverhampton Dean Richardson won a Silver medal in the M40 category as he finished 4th overall in the race. Dave Bratt also showed improved form over the country as he picked up M35 Bronze in 10th overall - full results

- Chloe Esegbona in her first year as an U17 won a bronze in the 60m Hurdles at the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield in a time of 9.13. The previous week in Birmingham she had won two 60m Hurdles races in 9.14 and 9.11 so showing great consistency - full results

- Nic Barber running for his fell racing club Pennine was the top club member in the 16.5mile off road Trig Points race on Cannock Chase where he finished 4th despite having done the Birmingham Cross Country League the day before, and senior men's coach and team manager John Danahay was close behind in 5th overall - results

- City of Stoke's men continued to confirm their status as one of the top cross country squads in the Midlands with an impressive 4th place in the latest round of the Birmingham Cross Country League at Coventry. - Former top multi-eventer Katie Gardner ran a new PB of 1.44.51 to beat her dad Nigel Gardner by more than 5 minutes in the Central Lancashire Half Marathon - full results

- City of Stoke's throws coach Morris Fox proved that he has plenty of life left as a competitor as he putted the shot out to 15.14m at the Loughborough Students Open Meeting - the longest throw by a 50+ athlete this year and the 3rd best of all time! Morris's skill's also rubbed off on one of his athletes as U17 Emma Rathbone improved her Shot PB to 9.54m - results

- U20 Amy Mellor bounced back into form with a great win in the senior women's race at the final North Staffs XC League race of the season at Westwood, Leek. Louise Dawson was top W40 in 7th place. Will Neill ran a brilliant race to win the senior men's race for the first time ahead of Parkhall winner Seb Duffy, the 4th different City of Stoke men's winner in the 4 league races this season! - There were a number of strong Stoke AC performances at the UKA Challenge and European Cross Country Trials at Liverpool. Probably the best result of the day came from Katie Holt who finished 10th in U23 Euro Trial and 25th in the senior women's race overall. Georgia Rafferty was a brilliant 3rd in the U15 girls race. Lucy Holt also showed great form with 7th in the U17 women. Amy Mellor was 40th in the junior women. In the U17 men Joel Mann was 66th. In the U15 boys Casey Maddock was 75th. In the senior men's race Oliver Langford was 94th and Will Neill 104th in an extremely strong field - full results

- Georgia Rafferty, running for Staffordshire won the Intermediate Girl category over 4k at the Inter County Cross Country Championships at Warwickshire College

- Both Dean Richardson (M40-44) and John Danahay (M50-54) made their International debuts and won Team Gold medals for England at the British and Irish Masters International Cross Country in Cardiff. John finished 12th in his category whilst Dean was 15th in his. As a reserve Dean had his call-up confirmed at 10.30pm the previous night so did extremely well to be competitive after a long drive on the Saturday morning - results

- Seb Duffy won his first North Staffordshire Cross Country league race at Parkhall as the senior men's team again dominated the team standings. Other age-group winners were Amy Mellor (Junior Women), Louise Dawson (W40 Women), Korey Blanch-Hallett (Junior Men) and Tasha Stone (U17 Women). Full results and photos from Bryan Dale.

- The club's senior men started well in the first Birmingham Cross Country league race of the season at Leamington as they finished 7th out of 16 teams in Division One. Lead counter for the club was junior Alex Brecker with a good run in 15th. Will Neill produced his best run so far in this league with 29th. Mike Harding was next in 51st showing that consistent training makes a big difference. Marc Hartley was not firing on all cylinders but battled for his 58th, whilst the clubs depth was shown once again by good runs from Steve Bazell in 65th and Callum Dillon in 70th. Providing back-up and pushing the counters from other teams down Dave Bratt in 97th and junior Korey Blanch Hallett in 104th had solid runs. Another junior Tom Hendricken made a tentative return from injury in 122nd with Richard Barrington completing our relatively small team in 290th -

- City of Stoke's senior women's team produced a stunning performance to win Bronze in the National Cross Country Relays at Mansfield. Kate Holt finished the first leg close to the leaders in 6th (with the team's fastest time), Emma Jackson improved to 5th before Michelle Ross-Cope, in her first race for more than a year, romped home in a glorious 3rd. The U15 girl's team also performed brilliantly to finish 7th, with the U17 women in a creditable 12th and the U13s in 44th and 74th to cap a great day for the girls The club's senior men (70th) and U17 men (58th) were weakened through illness and late withdrawals but persevered through to good finishes in very competitive fields, whilst the U13 boys made a great debut with 44th - full results and Videos from Athleticos

- The men's senior team showed considerable improvement on last year but found the going tough against top opposition in the National 6 Stage Road Relay at Sutton Park as they finished 53rd out of 93 teams. - Congratulations to Marc Hartley who made his longer road race debut at the the Coniston 14 and came away with a win in front of nearly 1400 runners! - full results

- The club's men finished 3rd in the Midlands Cross Country Relay Championships at Walsall, our highest placing in Midlands senior men's competition for 20 years. Marc Hartley (20.08) was 6th on the first leg, handing over to Oliver Langford (20.06) who pulled us through to 4th. Will Neill (19.50) then ran the team's fastest leg to move in touch with the top 3. On the final leg Callum Dillon (20.54) showed maturity beyond his experience to storm past the 3rd placed Tipton runner and complete an excellent team performance - photo of the team with their prizes! - full results and video from Will Neill

- Stoke AC's senior men's teams finished 10th and 42nd in the Midlands 6 Stage Road Relays at Sutton Park. Fastest leg was by Seb Duffy with 18.57- full results - This means the squad qualify for the National Championships in 3 weeks time. The club's U17 men also performed strongly finishing 2 teams in 10th and 11th places. Fastest leg was by Joel Mann who ran 13.02 just 8 seconds ahead of Callum McQueen - photos from Bryan Dale

- William Knight completed his season with a great performance to win Bronze in the Discus at the UK Schools Games in Sheffield. Sprinter Josh Billington produced a stunning 22.72 PB in taking 5th in the 200m and also capped it off with a Bronze in the 4x100 relay - full results

- Congratulations to Dean Richardson who took M40 Gold in the 1500m and Bronze in the 800m at the British Masters Championships in Birmingham. - Emma Jackson finally showed the 1500m pace we know she has with an excellent 4.05.83 PB and New Club Record in the BMC Gold Standard Meeting at Watford. 17-18 August 2013 - Midlands U15 / U17 Track and Field Championships - Birmingham. Some excellent performances by City of Stoke youngsters. U17 William Knight took double gold in the shot and discus with 12.62m and 43.22m respectively. U17 Bradley Godbold took silver in the discus with 34.27m. - A brilliant all round senior men's and women's team performance finishing 2nd in the final fixture at Gloucester secured promotion to Division One of the Midland Track and Field League - full results

6 August 2013 - Some more excellent middle distance performances at the latest BMC Gold Standard and Trafford Open Meeting at Stretford. Llorenc Sales Ferre finished his summer campaign with 1.48.84 for 2nd in the 800m, the 3rd time he has run under 1.49 this summer. Alex Brecker improved his 1500m PB to 3.54.52 with a decisive win in the BMC B race. U20 Louis Wrigley went under 2.00mins for the first time with a PB 1.59.40, U17 Joel Mann also set a PB of 2.00.37, as did M40 Dean Richardson with 2.03.51 in the 800m. In the 1500m Seb Duffy ran a SB of 4.08.20, M35 Dave Bratt 4.28.02 and U15 Georgia Rafferty a big PB of 4.39.22. Carl Platt also ran 9.35.74 in the 3000m - BMC and Trafford Open results

- The club's masters continued their domination of the Midlands Masters League this season with another great win at Sutton Coldfield. There was also a brilliant performance by our new women's team. Led by coach Nicola Quinlan; Sylvia Dykes, Deborah Salmon and Louise Shields scored an impressive 58 points across a range of track and field events to finish in 3rd place out of 5 teams - report and full results

- Despite lower numbers due to the holidays Stoke AC's U17 and U20 athletes showed again what a strong team they are with 4th thereby securing their place in the National Youth Development League Midlands Premier League match at Nottingham. There were A wins for Tom Baskeyfield (U20 High Jump 1.80m), Charlie Cook (U17 800m 2.03.6), Amelia Berrisford (U17 800m 2.19.5), Lucy Holt (U20 3000m 10.36.4), Heidi Jackson (U17 100m 13.0), Sarah Griffiths (U17 1500m 5.18.0), Dani Brosnan (U17 Discus 23.19m) and B wins for Josh Billington (U20 100m 11.7), Macauley Snutch (U20 800m 2.08.4), and Natasha Clowes (U20 400m 62.5) - full results
