COMPETITIONS AND LEAGUES ENTERED BY STOKE AC

Stoke AC athletes and teams compete in Track & Field, Cross Country and Road competitions at Local, Regional and National level. No other local club, and very few in the country, offer such a wide range of opportunities to compete. We have a growing number of athletes who have gone on to represent England and Great Britain as Juniors and Seniors.

We are particularly strong in Track & Field at National Young Athletes League level having won the Midland Premier league, beating the likes of Birchfield, and finishing 5th in the National final in 2007.

We also strongly support our athletes through schools competition and in the 2006 English Schools Track and Field Championships Stoke AC athletes won 8 medals, 5 of which were gold - the best results for any one athletics club in the country.

For men and women over 17 we compete with a combined team in the Division One of the Midlands Track and Field League - In 2008 we were the Division 1 champions.

In Cross Country we compete in the North Staffordshire League, The North Midlands League, and also the Birmingham League, considered by many to be the toughest league in the UK.

Compared to other areas of the Midlands, North Staffordshire has low senior participation levels overall in championships. Completing male and female senior teams and improving participation in the U20 category is now a priority aim for us. City of Stoke AC have coaches with masses of experience, great facilities at Northwood (with a massive discount for Stoke membership) and by far the best record locally over the past 20 years for actually getting athletes to major championships, but we are sure we can do much better...

If you a local U20 or senior runner and value your loyalty to your current club, perhaps consider joining us first claim, and staying with your current club second claim. This will give you access to all the major regional and national cross country, road, and of course track championships with Stoke AC, but you can continue to train with and compete for your current club in the vast majority of open road and fell races. And of course lots of publicity for your efforts on the most comprehensive club website in the area!

Despite the club's relative success we would very much welcome athletes of any standard from across the Midlands who would like to compete for us. If you are interested please contact: secretary@stokeac.org.uk
