25 June 2014 - Midlands Veteran's League at Burton - Nigel Gardner reports - Everyone's effort contributed to an excellent team victory. Geoff Ward had a great day in the field with 3 wins and a second. Todd Walton had two strong runs in the 100 & 400 and then ran an invaluable 400 leg of the relay Brian Eggleton's walk meant that we at last filled an event where we have had gaps to date this season and importantly beat the C&S competitor. Dan Harris had a great run in the 1500 going with a sprint right to the tape but then followed it up with a great 800m anchor leg in the relay. Paul Williams as always put in many strong performances; this time encompassing the discus and long jump as well as the 100, 400 and relay .Possibly the most satisfying result of the day came for M69 Richard Barrington. - In the traditional curtain raiser to the Vets track & field season an unusually sparse Stoke team competed against 6 other teams from around the Midlands at Telford reports Nigel Gardner. The 7 athletes who made the trip put in some outstanding performances (some in unfamiliar events just to get some points) and managed to take 3rd place overall from Sutton Coldfield by just 3 points. Whilst 2 other teams were significantly ahead of us on the night there were 5 events where we had no competitor and so with the more normal turnout for the three remaining fixtures we are still in with a good chance of retaining our league title. This is of particular note this year with us hosting the Vets final at Stoke on the 31st August. Date for everyone's diary is the next meeting at the Alexander Stadium on the 28th May. 14 January 2012
- In the absence of a number of key athletes Stoke AC's small team of senior men battled to maintain their status in the top flight of the Birmingham Cross Country League. Steve Bazell was top finisher, with a brilliant return from junior Liam Hendricken as 2nd counter. John Danahay was 3rd counter followed closely by Oliver Langford with a great run. 5th counter Mike Harding might have finished a lot higher, but for a twisted ankle on the 2nd lap, which he bravely ran through for the team. Last counter was veteran Kevin Hendricken who also finished with an injury, with Rob Lee providing the essential 7th place back-up. This result leaves Stoke AC in 13th place out of 16 teams with 3 to be relegated. Although we have a 140 point cushion on the 14th team, we need everyone out at Cheltenham in February to guarantee our survival in the toughest cross country league in the country - Full results
