30th November 2002 BIRMINGHAM CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE- GLOUCESTER

A fine team effort again to keep up with the front runners in the division. A new (very flat) course for Division 1 at Gloucester certainly suited Richard Sinclair who returned to form with a fantastic 14th place in a surprisingly strong field. Youth was followed by experience though as I continued to advance up to 29th - a best ever position in 17 years of running Birmingham League! Andy Mawdsley improved well from Sennerleys Park and Pete Benyon did exceptionally well to overcome a bout of severe stomach cramp when well placed in the low 30s with less than a lap to go. Matt Jones is obviously not firing on all cylinders and we can only hope that this extraordinarily talented athlete finds his way back soon. New signing Jamie Pringle also improved to be our 6th counter in a fine 58th. Tom Gayle returned from injury with a solid run to make sure we had back-up for possible injuries and drop-outs. Andy Prophett made the top 100 as he promised, on virtually his home territory. Adrian Thiemicke also made sure that we had back-up on probably his longest run for a few months!

The only disappointment was that we couldn't get 12 runners out this time. The list of missing athletes is considerably stronger on paper than the team that ran today!

My thanks also go to Richard Barrington for acting as on course team manager (including gathering these results) and providing transport.
