16th March 2002  BIRMINGHAM CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE - LEEK

City of Stoke retained their status in Division 1 after a good performance at Leek. Lee Turner led the way with 12th followed closely by Matthew Jones returning to form in 17th. Leigh Dooley posted his best performance over the county this Winter in 34th and Alex Wright overcame his hangover! to sweep through the field to 51st. I kept plugging away to pass Tom Gayle after he suffered a bad fall close to the end, costing him a number of places. 245 points was a fair score leaving us in 8th position on the day and overall. Andy Prophett found the hills hard work but persevered through to the end. Nic Stone ran to a steady 92nd and completed our 8 men home. More runners would have been nice but with injuries and illness effecting normally reliable counters this was a promising result for the future.
