9th March 2002 ENGLISH SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY - CHELMSFORD

Report by Tom Gayle

JACKSON ENDS IMPRESSIVE SEASON WITH INTERNATIONAL VEST

On the day that gale force winds greeted just over 2000 school children from various counties all over the country, City of Stoke’s Emma Jackson produced the club's best performance of the day when placing 7th in the Junior Girls race. Competing for Staffordshire Jackson lead her County home in the race where the first 8 gained selection into the England team. (Check out the Schools International Race Report)

The Alan Morris coached athlete Jackson topped off a highly impressive winter which has seen her place 3rd in the Birmingham Reebok Challenge, 10th in the Inter-counties and 13th in the National, all whilst still a first year in the U15 age group.

During the race itself, behind the runner away leader Emily Pidgeon of Gloucestershire the battle for the minor medals and team selection was intense. In the end Jackson produced the best performance of her career and after a determined approach throughout the race was rewarded with 7th place, just 12 seconds shy of a medal.
