Mike Races to Victory
Mike Proudlove successfully defended his Potteries Marathon title after a
great tactical battle with fellow Stoke AC athlete Ray Plant, Rob Deakin
from Staffs Moorlands and Tomas Abyu from Salford. Timing his final effort
to perfection Mike finally broke away from Deakin with a mile to go to win
in a time nearly 1 minute faster than last year despite roasting conditions.
Ray too can feel proud of his effort, with victory to come another year I am
certain. Andy Allen ran his usual canny race to finish 6th, 3 minutes up on
last year, his position reflecting the higher standard at the front end on
this occasion.
