25-27th July 2003  NORWICH UNION WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TRIALS - BIRMINGHAM

Forrester on the come back trail

by Tom Gayle

City of Stoke A.C Commonwealth 100m finalist Amanda Forrester made a welcome return to action at the National AAA championships which double as the World Championship trials.

Despite enduring a three month injury lay off, she jumped in at the deep end to mix it with the country’s best sprinters in her first competition of the year.

Although Forrester was unable to progress beyond the semi final, she was pleased to walk away from the event injury free and will probably now set her sites on qualification for next year’s Olympic Games.

Hurdlers David Brackstone’s and Nicholas Gayle ran well despite the poor conditions, but couldn’t make it beyond their opening heats.

While Brackstone came within a tenth of his personal best despite the wet and blustery conditions clocking 51.77, Gayle defied a stiff headwind to equal his personal best of 14.95.

Morris Fox endured a technically frustrating day in the shot putt and had to settle for ninth with a throw of 14.73m.
