This was a hard fought and
well deserved result. Although we had some key members missing,
everyone helped out to get every point available. Neil Fairlamb, Roger
Skedd and Danny Thompson did a number of events each, Morris Fox and
Matt Jones filled in at the Triple Jump, Andy Mawdsley doubled up in
the 3000m Steeplechase and the 5000m, Alex Wright followed his Staffs
AAA double with a good run in the 1500m, and Grenville Field put in
some solid performances all afternoon. Ray Plant won the Steeplechase,
Nick Gayle showed maturity beyond his age in the 110m Hurdles and
Morris Fox maintained his record in the shot. Stoke athlete of the
day, however, was David Brackstone, who achieved the 400m Hurdles /
200m double, and in the latter he beat Jamie Henthorn, a Commonwealth
Games semi-finalist. In the next match, we are without Morris Fox, so
we must turn out a strong team to compensate, and to maintain our good
start.
