Given that Illness, Injury, Holidays and International Duty robbed us
of 8 athletes, the team that went to Bedford performed heroically.
Athletes who were there once more committed themselves to the cause.
Morris Fox threw the hammer, as well as bringing in his customary
tally of points, Neil Fairlamb, though not fully fit, performed in a
total of 4 events, including a win in the B string javelin, Danny
Thompson, still Under 20, also did 4 events, and we welcomed back
Dominic Shepherd to compete in 5 events, including the A string
Javelin (4th) and the B string Shot (2nd). Andy Prophett doubled up in
the 800/1500m and a leg of the 4 x 400m Relay, and Andy Mawdsley
doubled in the 3000mSC/5000m.
Nik Gayle performed a PB
in the 110mHurdles, Matt Jones ran sub-4 mins in the 1500m and Ray
Plant ran close to 15mins in the 5000m. David Mountford, another
athlete who is not fully fit, still came 3rd in the Triple Jump,
Steven Lewis won the Pole Vault after jumping a creditable 5m92 in the
Long Jump. Paul Nwaolise, Grenville Field, Steven Heathcote, James
Dohnal, Steve Bazell and Steve Buttler also played their part in
hopefully keeping the team in the Division. I hope that we can call on
a strong team to go down to Southampton at the end of August to cement
our place in Division 3.
