11th January 2003 BIRMINGHAM CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE - RUGBY

There were gains and losses in the 3rd fixture at Princethorpe College. Unfortunately we lost Richard Sinclair through injury and Matt Jones through exams. It was however great to get Ray Plant out, but the semi frozen course was definitely not to his advantage. Andy Allen was back to close to his best though and I achieved my highest ever Div1 finish after a fierce battle with him every inch of the 10km course. Pete Benyon, suffering from a sore hip, was uncharacteristically down on the form I know he has got in him - but I'm sure he'll be a top 25 finisher next time out. Jamie Pringle continued his consistent first season with us for 64th. Steve Heathcote was another who expected to run better but Div1 races don't take prisoners. Again, next time out I would expect to see Steve easily in the top 50. Ian Milner and Andy Prophett also found the going tough, but made sure that we had back-up. (They would have scored in some of the other teams!) Adrian Thiemicke trotted round to complete a satisfactory team turn-out.

5th place was our best result of the season so far and a reflection of our depth in a really tough field. Outside the top 4 all the other teams posted big scores! We are now 6th overall - just behind OWLS.
