A top 10 place, 4 up on last year was the reward for a good all round
performance. My first lap effort was 25 seconds faster than the same race
last year - but it didn't hurt any less! Rob Whalley proved yet again what a
superb Road Relay runner he is with the second fastest clocking of the day
to bring us up into a clear 3rd. Newcomer Brian Cole surprised me with his
speed only 2 weeks after a fantastic 100km race in Holland and 1 week after
the Great North Run. Ray Plant ran despite a bad cold and brought us back
into 3rd place again. Andy Prophett showed that the last 2 years injury
problems are hopefully behind him - a sub 19 min clocking is on the cards at
the National. Adrian Thiemike was left in the 'interesting' position of
starting the final leg only 10 seconds outside a medal. Despite his best
effort the final legs from the other close teams involved rather fitter
runners, but I doubt they tried as hard.
