Only a magnificent long stage effort by Rob Whalley and the commitment by
all those present helped to alleviate the pain of disqualification. Rob's
25.38 was the 2nd fastest of the day and nearly 50 seconds faster than last
year! Unfortunately the non appearance of key runners meant that the 10 who
actually got to Sutton Park were always going to come out second best
against the competition rules. 6th place after 10 stages was an excellent
attempt to be competitive in the circumstances and I cannot fault the effort
(or the performance) of anyone, particularly of those who volunteered to run
twice.
I for one will not do this event again unless we get equal commitment from
those who were missing.
