Today 10 athletes
travelled to Grangemouth, and
10 heroes returned. We finished 7th, which was better than I
expected, but it was the way that everyone
gave all they could for every point gained.
Phil Brownsword threw the Hammer, even though he had a wedding
reception to attend in the
afternoon. Chris Scott also threw the Hammer, as well as
performing in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, and then the Discus,
his main event.
Nathan Price and Scott
Simpson, two Under 17s who are new to Hurdling competed in the
400m Hurdles. They both then ran the Sprint Hurdles, and Nathan
did the Triple Jump and
Relay, while Scott ran the 2000m Steeplechase.
Gavin Walters ran the 800m, 400m, High Jump, 2000m Steeplechase,
and a leg of the 4 x 400m Relay.
Martin Chomanicz, although running in the Inter
Counties match on Saturday, ran the 100m, 200m and Relay. He is
also Under 17. James Williams ran the 100m,
400m and both relays. Rob Eggleton competed in the Javelin,
coming 2nd, and also in the Shot and the 1500m. Gregg Nixon
threw the Javelin,
Shot and Discus. Andrew Waller, another Under
17, and carrying a slight injury, competed in the High Jump,
200m and both Relays. Chris
Minor ran the 3000m, coming 2nd, the 1500m and the 4 x 400m
Relay. There wasn't one Athlete of the Match - they all were!
We will need to put out 2 very strong teams now
to avoid relegation. If the athletes that I choose show as much
commitment to perform, and they are allowed
to by their coaches, then we can do it. If I were looking for
commitment to our Club, I found it today in Scotland.
