The side was simply not
strong enough on the day to do any better than 7th, and so be
relegated. There were too many of its best athletes away, injured, or
simply not committed enough to help when desperately needed. In spite
of this there were some stirring performances, none more so than Gavin
Walters who has proved to have the character to give 110%, he ran in
the 800m, 1500m and 2000m Steeplechase and did well in all three.
Scott Simpson was the only winner, in the "B" 110m Hurdles.
Ashley Steventon showed how much we have missed him in the High Jump,
and he was well supported by Steven Latham. James Dohnal performed his
usual 5 events well, with his best in the Pole Vault, and Gregg Nixon
and Chris Scott both did well in the Discus. One good match
performance out of 4 was not good enough and we must turn to those
athletes who have been committed to the team, and those who will come
up from the Young Athletes to get the team back to the top division.
