Top 10 place for the U15 boy’s
Report by Tom Gayle
After dangerous winds cancelled the National Road Relay Championships
last year, the rearranged event combined all the English teams as well as
those who compete in the Young Athletes League.
The best of City of Stoke performance came
from the U15 boys who finished 9th overall, and second Midland
team behind Tipton.
The team was led off by Damian Gallagher who
came home 28th out of just under a 100 teams that started the
race. Second up was Liam Jones who stormed through to 17th with a
swift 13.10 clocking for the 3.861km circuit.
The best as they say was saved until last as
the final leg saw City of Stoke’s form man Alex Derricott to determine the
clubs finishing place. He continued hectic schedule by pushing City of Stoke
into the top 10 with a highly impressive 12.44 which was just 5 seconds
outside the fastest 10 times of the day.
With Gallagher and Derricott still eligible
for this age group next year the Midland title and a National medal seem a
distinct possibility. Alarmingly though no Stoke A.C girl’s team were
present at Sutton Park in the event which was well supported by teams from
all corners of the country and who had a lot more than the simple hours
drive luxury our club has!
