6th August 2003  MIDLAND VETS TRACK & FIELD LEAGUE - CANNOCK

City of Stoke AC completed their final league meeting at Cannock with another strong performance to finish second on the evening and second overall in the league. This is Stoke’s highest ever position in the league and is just reward for the tremendous effort put in by all the athletes involved.

Paul Williams got us off to a fine start with a winning double in the M40A 200m and Long Jump. Mick Warrilow put in another excellent performance to finish second in the M40B 200m and M50 Long Jump.

Dave Eabrey recently elevated to veteran status competed well in the M40A 800m and showed that he will be a useful addition to the squad next year.

Richard Barrington M50, and Phil Bailey M40B, won valuable points in very competitive 800m races. Phil later went on to finish second in his main event the M50 2000m walk with his third pb. of the season.

Dave Hindley had another busy night competing in the M60 Javelin, M40 2000m and finally the M60 3000m.

Merv Richards was still suffering from a leg injury but yet again proved too strong for the opposition by winning the M40 shot putt with a p.b. of 10.50m.

Ray Ibbs (M50) is another new recruit to the team and ran extremely well on his track debut in the M40A 3000m. Alan Burt has competed at most distances this season and once more showed his track versatility competing well in the M40B 3000m.

This season, the Stoke team has grown from strength to strength and next year we will put in an even stronger challenge and hopefully improve on this years position.
