What a team performance to
start the season! Some outstanding individual performances and a full
complement of decathletes more than compensated for weaknesses in
certain events in which we know we have the capacity to do better. The
closeness of the competition yet again proved that every single point
matters!
In the 100m, juniors Martin Chomanisz and Louis Moore coped superbly
with the wind and the senior competition. Louis also jumped a PB 7.20
to finish second in the Long Jump. David Brackstone yet again won an
excellent 200m / 400m Hurdles double. The 1500m saw Tom Gayle run an
great tactical race for a fine second and in the 3000m Steeplechase
Gavin Walters marked his BAL debut with 3rd in the 'A' Race, backed up
by a typically gritty performance from Rob Rhodes in the 'B'.
Nick Gayle's 3rd in the 'A' race and Robin Smith's win in the 'B'
provided a big points haul from the 110m Hurdles. Robin must receive
special praise for running a PB in the 400m ten minutes later with
virtually no notice!
David Mountford was a 2nd in the 'B' Long Jump as was Sam Bishop in
the 'A' High Jump. Multi-eventer, Roger Skedd provided excellent
back-up in the throws to Morris Fox who will definitely be aiming to
get back to winning ways in the next fixture.
Martin Chomanisz, Louis Moore, Nick Gayle and and David Brackstone
combined superbly to win the 4x100m relay and set-up a match win for
the first time in more than 3 years.
To win promotion, let alone the league will need even better
performances across the remaining 3 fixtures, but at least we've given
ourselves the best possible start.
