BIRMINGHAM
CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE - COVENTRY |
|
|
A great team effort saw Stoke AC senior men edge closer to safety in the 3rd
fixture of the Birmingham League Division One match at Coventry. Tom Gayle
started steadily but eased round to a best ever position of 25th. Andy
Mawdsley just back from Australia showed superb form after a race long
battle with the totally rejuvenated Andy Prophett! Unfortunately not able to
match their efforts, I spent most of the race going backwards but rallied to
a respectable 49th. Pete Benyon ran a steady race after an absence of more
than 2 years at this level and our final counter Danny Barker ran possibly
his best ever senior level cross country to bring the team home in 7th, yet
again a few points ahead of local rivals Staffs Moorlands and leave us in
charge of our own destiny in the final fixture at Northampton in 3 weeks
time. Gavin Walters, coming back after 4 months off with a broken arm, only
just found the course on time (following my directions!) and is likely to be
closer to the scoring 6 in the final fixture.
Northampton is likely to be the final Birmingham League fixture for
Stoke for myself, Andy Prophett and Andy Mawdsley so let's stay up with
shout rather than a whimper.
