A second consecutive victory was just reward for a tremendous team effort from City of Stoke.

However, the individual performance of the evening came from Kevin Brown of Royal Sutton Coldfield who threw 52.60m in the M40 Discus to claim a new Midlands record.

A warm summer’s evening was ideal conditions for athletics and Paul Williams and Mike Warrilow gave the team a flying start with 1^st and 2^nd in the M40 200m.

Mark Kinch had a fine race to finish 4^th in a strong M40A 800m field and Adrian Thiemicke, making his Vets debut competed well with 3^rd in the M40B 800 and 6^th in the M40A 3000m.

It was good to see Dick Kneill competing again after injury and he finished 3^rd in the M60 800m. Alan Simpson and Ray Ibbs are both adapting well to the track with Alan finishing 4^th in the M40B 3000m and Ray 2^nd in the M50 3000m.

Phil Bailey and Dave Hindley are both becoming accomplished Race Walkers. Dave finished 4^th in the M40 race and Phil 2^nd in the M50 race.

Our Field event athletes were strong throughout. Merv Richards finished 2^nd in both the M40 Discus and Shot. Richard Barrington demonstrated his versatility with an excellent 3^rd in the M60 Long Jump. Nigel Gardner was carrying an injury on the night but still put in a fine performance to finish 4^th in the M40 Long Jump.

Clive Howell threw a seasons best to finish 5^th in the M50 Javelin.

The final event was the 4x100m relay and our team of Mick Warrilow, Paul Williams, Richard Barrington and Nigel Gardner were in superb form to win by a clear 2 seconds.

This was our second successive victory despite a very strong challenge from Royal Sutton Coldfield. It was good to see the meeting supported by the club and I would like to thank all of those involved.

The next meeting will be at Rowley Park Stafford on Tuesday 12^th July.
