ASTONISHING
50 CONSECUTIVE BAL FIXTURES FOR ANDY PROPHETT |
|
|
The final fixture of the
British League National 2 was significant for Andy Prophett, who competed in
his 50th consecutive BAL fixture for Stoke AC.
A 20 year old Andy Prophett made his league debut in July 1994 at Stoke placing 3rd
in the B 800. Twelve and a half
seasons later he has yet to miss a fixture.
Of these 50 appearances at 24 different venues, 16 have been in
division 2, 32 in division 3 and 2 in division 4.
Without doubt Andy’s finest moment was in the first fixture of the
1998 Division 3 season held in Stoke where he
won the 800 A race in a time of 1:51.6, a time which remains his pb.
The 1998 season saw Stoke AC involved in a promotion battle that went right
down to the final relay and Andy ensured promotion with a 49.9 anchor leg!
Other highlights include setting a personal best 15:13.9 in the 5000m in the
third fixture of the 1996 season at Watford, despite having already clocked
a 1:54.2 800m earlier in the afternoon. (I remember that one well because
I was supposed to be the 'A' runner and Andy tracked me all the way, and
then left me for dead over the last couple of laps!)
Whilst his times have slowed in recent seasons, Andy's best
performance this season has been a 1:56.6 for 4th in the B 800 in the
National 2 fixture at Kingston.
And remember - Andy does not just turn-up - every race at his specialist
distance receives 110% effort, and he is renowned as being one of the most
competitive athletes anywhere - and this sequence also mirrored more than 50
consecutive appearances in Division 1 of the Birmingham cross country
league!
Many congratulations to Andy from all at Stoke AC. This is one record that
we won't see broken for a long time, if ever. Hopefully there are a few more
years left in you yet?
