A big thank you to all who competed in and assisted with tonight's races...
Birchfield Harrier Rob Deakin produced yet
another dominating performance to win the Berryhill 10k race. Content
to shadow Trentham's Ian Yates on the 1st of 3 laps, Deakin put
in a strong surge on the 2nd lap to pull convincingly ahead, and
running unchallenged on the 3rd lap of the undulating off-road
course, he further extended his lead to more than 2 minutes by the finish.
Yates came in an isolated 2nd well ahead of a tight battle for 3rd,
eventually won by unnattached runner Ben Gamble from 1st over 40 Phillip
Read of Uttoxeter Road Runners.
After a couple of unplanned stops Ian Milner ran strongly to finish first
Stoke man home in 6th overall.
The ladies race followed a similar pattern with Newcastle AC's Michelle
Buckle running with Cannock and Stafford ladies veteran Christine Kilkenny
for the 1st part of the race before accelerating away to win
comfortably by more than a minute. Newcastle's Lynne Richards finished
fast to claim 3rd spot. Ruth Barry was the sole Stoke AC ladies
representative finishing in a creditable 4th place in a competitive field.
The Junior races were both dominated by the Stoke AC boys squad with Tom
Guy easily taking the U13 title, and Josh Berrisford winning the U16
race after a close battle with team mate Jake Hart. In the U13 girls
category however the host club had to give second best to an excellent run
from Staffordshire Moorlands Louise Baker, with Birchfield Harriers
Danielle Johnson gaining an equally comprehensive victory in the U16
girls.
