6th June 2006 CITY PARK SERIES - TUNSTALL A good Stoke AC representation at the 2nd of the 4 race City Parks series was capped by an excellent performance from Michelle Cope in the senior women's race. Michelle battled hard all the way with former Dutch international and Stoke AC master Adri Hartveld who seems to be racing himself into better form. Amazingly Adri had also come 7th overall in the Blackpool marathon a couple of days earlier! In the junior races U15 Mark Shallcross was yet again first Stoke runner home in 6th overall, followed closely by the outstanding U13 Tom Guy. Joe Broome in 10th also ran well, and Jack Ross in 11th improved massively on the first race to finish below 7 minutes for the first time. The other age group winner was U11 Greg Smalley finishing in an astonishing 7.12, well ahead of his rivals. Team mate Chris Washington also ran extremely well to finish second U11. Ray Plant was forced to run strongly in the senior men's race to beat the determined Phil Bradshaw from Newcastle - but now looks in prime position to retain his series title. After a couple of weeks off with injury Danny Barker started strongly and ran well in isolation for 4th overall, whilst Ian Milner continued his improvement to 5th, shepherded all the way by international ultra runner Brian Cole - who incidentally had won the Dartmoor Discovery 33 miles race in sweltering conditions only 3 days before.
