Michelle
Ross continued her fine form on the track this summer by collecting a bronze
medal in the National AAA and World Trial 10000m race that took place at the
BMC Grand Prix in Watford.
During a meeting that was blighted by pouring rain, where arguably both the
men and women’s 25 lap races endured the worst of, the City of Stoke
athlete performed remarkably to collect her first National AAA medal.
It was no easy task though as the majority of media interest surrounding the
race was focused upon Jo Pavey’s (Exeter Harriers) pursuit of the World
Championship qualifying mark of 31.40. As a result of this a hot pace was
set from the off as the pace makers began to circuit in 76 second laps to
keep 2006 Commonwealth 5000m silver medallist Pavey on target, subsequently
quickly strung out the rest of the field.
Undeterred by this and subsequently having to run the majority of the race
on her own, the Alan Morris coached athlete produced a magnificent run,
stopping the clock at 33 minutes and 15.44 seconds that unsurprising is a
new club record.
