Report by Tom Gayle
Following his 200 plus personal
best Roger Skedd gives us his own diary entry to offer an insight into his
thoughts on his successful weekend in France which included a new club
record in the javelin.
“I had a cold going into the competition so am really chuffed overall. The
winds were a big help in the 100m, but a hindrance for the rest of day one
especially in the 400m as we were running into a gale on the first 200m so
was really pleased with the time.
I wasn’t expecting a high jump pb although after a disappointing long jump
I had to start making up points somewhere. The shot was steady, could have
been a little better but I became a little too tense.
The winds were a lot calmer for day two. With my hurdles I was really
pleased with the control of which I ran that time. The discus is getting
back to where it belongs, while the pole vault is progressing well although
once I sort my technique over the bar I’m sure I will be close to five
metres.
When it came to the javelin I thought I was going to keel over I was so
drained but I managed to pull one out of the of the bag in the last round.
Finally for the 1500m my coach told me that I needed 5.03 for 7500 points. I
was two seconds inside the target at 800m, but then cramp combined with the
fact that I had nothing left in the tank it was a painful last 700m. Despite
dying so severely I know I will have an extra 100 points to play with in the
1500 if I get it right next time”.
