INTER-COUNTIES
CROSS COUNTRY - NOTTINGHAM |
|
|
Although this was not a vintage year for Stoke
AC (or Staffordshire) athletes in the top domestic cross-country competition
of the year, there were still some great performances.
Kate and Heather Holt are both at the bottom of their respective age-groups but still performed
very well, and it was also great to see a strong return from Emma Ward
leading home the Staffordshire senior women's team.
In the U13 boys Tom Guy showed an excellent return to form and would surely
have figured right at the top of the field but for a difficult last few
months with injury and illness.
Josh Kinch also showed improved strength in the U15 boys and looks a good
bet for a massive improvement this year on the track.
U20 man Alex Derricott is recovering well from illness and has at least
another year to go in this age-group - I'd put my money on him for a top 5
placing next year! Damian Gallagher is another first year U20 who will make
a much higher placing next year.
In the senior men Ultra Runner Brian Cole showed that his cross country
speed is improving with a fine 132nd on his Inter Counties debut. After the
first lap Brian was still outside the top 200, but he used his endurance to
great affect to pass other runners the whole race, and said he could have
done with a few more laps!
Former Stoke AC athlete Lee Turner was top Staffordshire performer with a
fine 26th place.
