Report by Tom Gayle
Several of the clubs
athletes braved the not so summery climes of Bedford (heavy rain and strong
winds) over the bank holiday weekend to compete in their respective counties
colours in the UK Intercounties championships.
Yet again it was Emma Jackson who was the clubs star performer, surprisingly
though this time over the 1500m. Jackson employed the classic sit and kick
tactic to perfection to secure her first senior title in a new personal best
of 4.26.63.
The hurdles provide the club's other high lights with notable performances
from Rodger Skedd and Wendy Davidson. Skedd lowered his personal best twice
in a day on his way to placing 5th in the 110m hurdles in a time
of 14.46. Davidson, who is now specialising in the 400m hurdles, would have
been encouraged by her performance. Despite being outside her personal best
of 63.1 her time of 64.06 in the final, given the terrible conditions,
indicates that there maybe a lot more to come from her in this event.
