Report by Tom Gayle
Several of the clubs athletes were in action at the meeting that attracts
many of the countries leading exponents, irrespective of age, in the
horizontal and vertical jumps.
Star of the show from the clubs perspective was 16 year old Matthew Rollings
as he continued his impressive 2007 long jump campaign. With the English
Schools Championships just a fortnight away, Rollings sent out a timely
reminder to his rivals as he soured out to a new personal best of 6.86,
moving himself up to third on the current UK U17 rankings.
Perhaps even more impressive was that despite the terrible conditions
that the athletes had to endured at the Alexandra Stadium due to the
unseasonable wet weather of late the John Crotty coached athlete record 4
jumps past the 6.80 mark.
