30th June 2007 MIDLANDS WOMENS LEAGUE MATCH 2 - NORTHWOOD

Some fine performances from the Stoke athletes lifted the team spirits on an otherwise inhospitable wet and windy day at Northwood stadium. Wendy Davidson got the team off to a good start winning the 400m hurdles comfortably in 63.4.

Four personal bests were recorded on the day with superb performances from Katie (Figz) Holt in the U15 800m and Emma Jackson in the senior 1500m.  Katie braved some of the worst weather of the day to run a superb solo effort in the 800m clocking a massive personal best by some 4 seconds which in the conditions was nothing short of incredible. The 2:11.4 clocking rockets Katie to the top of the Power of 10 rankings by a margin of two seconds.  Katie then went on the win the B string U17 300m with a time of 43.6 which shows she is rounding into good form for the English Schools in two weeks time.

Emma Jackson ran another tremendous solo performance in the senior 1500m to smash her previous best by 8 seconds to return 4:18.1, a European U20 qualifying time, and sufficient to propel her to third spot on the U20 Power of 10 rankings.  Emma then went on to anchor the 4 x 400 team of Anderson, Davidson, Ward & Jackson to a win clocking 56.8 to see the squad just 5 seconds short of the club record with a time of  3 :55.

Training partner Emma Ward running in only her third race of the season ran a seasons best of 4:25.1 to finish second and 1st B to give Stoke an important double.

Youngsters Chloe Green and Rachel Cadagan were the other two athletes to record personal bests with Chloe winning the B string  U17 800m in 2:35.1 and Rachel winning the B string U15 1500m in 5:15.4.

Jasmine Sawyers was in fine form with three individual first places in the U15 high jump, 1.60; long jump 5.36 and 75m hurdles 12.2 seconds.

Ashlee Nelson was in a class of her own in the U17 200m clocking a time of 24.8, 2.6 seconds ahead of the field.  Kate Anderson took the B string in 26.7 to give Stoke another double and also finished 2nd in the A 800m in 2:20.1; 2nd in the A string 300m in 41.5, ran a leg of the 4 x 100m and a leg of the winning senior 4 x 400m team where she clocking 59.4 seconds a hard days work adding some 22 points to the Stoke total.

Stoke finished 2nd on the day only 4 points short of Charnwood - the result taking the club to 5th place in the division after two matches and importantly just clear of the relegation zone.  A good team effort in really poor conditions.
