It gives me great pleasure to
report that all the club athletes present at the Intercounties match where
Staffordshire Schools took on Shropshire schools were either victorious in
their respective disciplines or set a new life time best.
Star of the show was Lucie Farrell in the U13 girls 800m. Not only did she
produce an impressive front running performance, she knocked over four
seconds off her previous best to smash the club record by over two seconds.
The record now stands at 2.27.0, a time that ranks Farrell 10th
on the UK rankings.
On the boys side the most striking performance came again in the distance
events via David Sheldon in the U13 boys 1500m. Sheldon hung on to the hot
pace set by Shropshire’s Joe Morris to smash through the 5 minute barrier
for the first time and knock just over 10 seconds off his personal best when
claiming the runner up spot in a time of 4.50.7.
Other highlights
Jake Teague, who only joined the
club in May, continued his unbeaten streak over both the 100 and 200m

Like wise James Taylor,
current UK number one in the 75m hurdles, extended his unbeaten run into
double figures for the season.

Grace Mahoney knocked a
whopping 12 seconds off her personal best in the U13 girls 1500m to complete
a Staffordshire one, two, in the event.
·
Jazmine Sawyers was a double
winner in the hurdles and high jump, where during the latter she set a new
meeting record of 1.65.
·
Jaydene Thompson, who
equalled Katie Gardner’s club record of 13.5 at the County Championships
the week before, comfortably took victory in the U13 100m with a winning
time of 13.9, and later went over 4 metres for the first time in the long
jump.

Both and Jordan Kirkland and
Kris Washington exacted revenge over their county championship conquerors in
the 70m hurdles and 800m, with the former taking victory, and the latter
setting a new life time best.

Sammy Jo Daley Davis again
got the better of Staffordshire team mate Catherine Hulme, this time she
took victory by a mere 0.4 seconds.
