3rd May 2007  MIDLAND VETS TRACK & FIELD LEAGUE - BURTON

A superb all-round team performance produced a winning start to the 2007 season for Stoke’s Masters Team at Burton.

Despite a very strong headwind, our sprinters were in top form. Tony Leigh and Paul Williams sprinted superbly for winning doubles in the M35 and M40 100m and 400m. Richard Barrington ran exceptionally well in the M60 100m for 2nd place.
Chris Bourne is more used to the longer distances but still put in a great performance to claim 3rd in the M50 400m.

Our middle distance runners also picked up good points. Alan Burt (M40) ran well for 5th position in the M35 1500m. This was a particularly good performance as he ran the Uttoxeter half marathon a few days previously. Mark Kinch returned to the track in good form and ran strongly for 2nd place in the M40 1500. It was good to see Dave Hindley competing again and he showed that he has not lost his speed with 3rd place in the M60 1500m.

Brian Eggleton and Phil Bailey competed well in the 2k walk. Both claimed 2nd position in the M40 and M60 races respectively.

Clive Howell (M50) competed despite feeling unwell and finished 3rd in a very competitive M40 Hammer competition. Peter Wainwright (M50) was 2nd in the M35 Javelin.

Richard Barrington showed his versatility with 3rd place in the M60 shot and then as a late replacement in the M50 High Jump he showed what a great competitor he is claiming 4th position. Nigel Gardner (M40) jumped extremely well to win the M35 High Jump. Again another great performance as he was suffering from a calf injury.

Our 4 x 200m relay team competed well but were never really in contention to improve on 3rd position.

Another win and another superb team performance. Our continuing success is entirely due to the talent and commitment within the team. It was good to have Tony Leigh making his debut and with Paul Williams we have a sprint duo who will take some beating.

The next meeting will be held at Northwood on Wednesday 13th June.
