13th June 2007  MIDLAND MASTERS TRACK & FIELD LEAGUE - NORTHWOOD

Another superb team performance ensured victory on home soil. Once again our sprinters were on top form. Tony Leigh left his rivals in his wake as he cruised home to win the M40 200m. Mike Warrilow ran extremely well to finish 3rd in the M50 race and Richard Barrington was a comfortable winner in the M60 200m.

Our middle distance runners were up against some tough opposition but gained valuable points. Alan Burt was still recovering from the Potters Half marathon but ran well for 5th position in the M40A 800m. Nigel Gardner who is more accustomed to jumping events competed well for 4th place in the M40B event. Ray Ibbs made a welcome return to the track and finished 3rd in the M50 competition. In the 3000m events, both Adrian Thiemicke and Chris Bourne competed outside their age groups but ran exceptionally well for 5th in the M35 and M40 events. Dave Hindley showed he is well on the way to full fitness with 3rd place in the M60 competition. Brian Eggleton also competed outside of his age group to finish a creditable 2nd in the 2k Walk. Arguably the performance of the night came from John Sinclair in the M50 event. John paced himself perfectly to sweep past his opponents in the final 30 metres to gain a superb victory.

As usual, our field athletes were on top form. Paul Williams showed that he is a great all round athlete winning the M35 Shot Putt. Brian Eggleton threw well for 4th in the M60 Javelin and Mike Warrilow competed well for 3rd in the M50 Long Jump. It was not ideal conditions for the Discus competition but Clive Howell threw exceptionally well for 2nd in the M50 age group.

The final event of the night was the 400m relay. Stoke with only 2 recognised sprinters were always going to find it tough going but despite this were only a whisker away from second place.

This was an exceptional team performance considering there were a significant number of athletes unavailable on the night.
