Stoke AC runner
Steven Bazell was part of an international team representing train makers
Bombardier Transportation which competed and won at this year’s Berlin
road relays.
The
team comprising of Andreas Rottler ( Germany ), Hugh Torry (UK), Gerardo
Jarillo ( Mexico ), Regis Sireuil ( France ) and Steven Bazell (UK) was just
one of the 22 international teams that Bombardier Transportation entered
this year, in this popular event, which this year was held between the
4th and 6th of June.
Organised
by a local sports club, the annual 5x5km relay round the Tiergarten park in
central Berlin attracts thousands of teams from Germany and further a field.
The teams are a mixture of families and fun runners, corporate teams and
serious athletic teams, and have even included the German junior triathlon
team.
The
event which is usually held over two days with up to 1500 teams competing
each day, was spread over 3 days this year to accommodate the increased
number of teams wanting to take part, such is the popularity of the event.
Steve
Bazell said “I ran last year and the team finished 2nd, so
to be asked to come back this year with the same international team of
athletes and to win the race was absolutely fantastic.”
Andre
Kuntz, Senior Director Group Procurement NPR said "This is really
great for Bombardier. It’s a day where you get to know colleagues from all
over the place and it raises our profile in Berlin, and BT teams 1 and 2 put
the icing on the cake on this beautiful day and raced into first and second
place to clinch the day’s victory.”
