MIDLANDS
CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008 - LEAMINGTON |
|
|
Kate Holt (U15 girls) and Emma Jackson (U20
women) produced outstanding performances when it mattered to win their
respective Midland Championship races. The U15 boys team also packed
extremely well to earn a brilliant bronze.
Grace Mahoney ran another consistent race to finish in the top half of the
U13 girls race.
Dave Sheldon ran brilliantly for 6th place in the U13 boys, a placing
matched by the U13 boys team.
In the U15 girls behind Kate Holt, Sam Bailey ran well for a top 25 finish
in a strong field.
The U15 boys bronze medal winning team was led home by Tom Guy in 10th, at
last getting the better of Nathan Ainsworth in a cross country race this
season. Nathan finished an excellent 12th only a couple of seconds behind
Tom. With Joe Broome and the rapidly improving Luke Kinch packing well this
team shows considerable promise.
In the U17 women Chloe Green ran very well for 35th, closely followed by
Kate Anderson.
The U17 men were led home by Josh Kinch in 23rd, another athlete who has
shown a big improvement this year, and it was good to see this age-group at
the club finish a team.
Emma Jackson is reported by UK Athletics to have had a fall on her way to an
emphatic victory in the U20 women's race. That kind of strength and
commitment bodes well for another outstanding summer on the track.
Clare Booker was our sole representative at senior level and she performed
well, just missing out on a top 50 placing.
It is sad to see no U20 or senior male competitors from the club, but
hopefully once the squad gets over the shocking round of injuries suffered
over the last 6 months we will bounce back with a much stronger showing next
year.
