On a wet & windy day City of Stoke AC produced a storming set
of results to take a commanding position at the top of the midlands division
1 league. This was the team’s best effort yet, finishing 19 points clear
of the home club and establishing a consistent performance for the away

Again there were some excellent individual performance’s producing a
stream of personal best and season bests.
In the first event of the day, Glenn Unsworth competing in the hammer, set a
number of personal bests finally resulting in a throw of 38.55m to win
the B string. Gregg
Nixon and Martin Bartholomew were ready to renew their personal battle, both
predicting big throws due to the favourable wind and they did not
disappoint, each producing huge personal bests, with Gregg 48.13m
taking the honours this time round over Martin 48.06m. Gregg commented he
was very satisfied with today’s distances - showing consistent throws around
his previous best. He was unfortunate to have one of his throws measured
short, which was believed to be over the 50m mark. We believe you Gregg;
you’ll just have to convince the official in the next match!
Robin Smith in his first appearance for the club this year, showed that he
is completely over his injury which plagued him last year, producing a
personal best in the javelin 48.20m to finish 3rd (A) and a
good performance in the 110m hurdles wining the A string event with 16.1s,
whilst his team mate James Dohnal made it a double victory by winning the B
string with 18.30s, despite a little jiggle half way down the track. James
also showed he is also over his recent illness by backing this up with a win
in the long jump (B).
The field events were also the catalyst for the women’s team with more
personal bests for the two Jades. This time it was the shot where Jade Weston
having broke the 12m barrier in the last match produced a huge 13.15m
throw to win the women’s (A)
and Jade “M” then threw 10.90m to finish 2nd and add
another PB to the collection. The tables were turned in the discus with Jade
Moore Throwing 39m to win the (A) event, whilst Jade “W” threw a new
PB of 32.18m to win the (B).
There was fantastic support given to the team by great performances from our
International distance runners Michelle
Cope & Emma Jackson, who supported the club despite their busy schedules.
There were also excellent performances from Kate
Holt and Chelsea Cooper and the other English School representatives who
will be competing for Staffordshire next weekend. As many of these produced
their best results so far, we wish them all the best and await next
weekend's results.
You are al ready champions in our eyes. Alan
and myself would like to congratulate you all for your time, effort and
availability as well as the consistency of performance and of your
performances.
In total there were 14 individual wins for the women’s team and also
victory in the 4x400m.
There is now only the final fixture left, which happens to be at Northwood
on the 10th August, PLEASE NOTE this is a SUNDAY. This
is not a match to miss so bring plenty of supporters and let us know of your
availability for this meeting as time soon goes, and finally.
“LET’S FINISH
WHAT WE STARTED”
