8 November 2008 NORTH MIDLANDS CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE - CORBY

City of Stoke produced yet again some outstanding performances at the North Midlands Cross Country League held at Corby on the 8th November.

The day kicked off with the under fifteen competition where Sophie Plant stormed home in a superb 10th and Sarah Lovewell in 12th place. Lucy Hayes battled through to finish in 17th to secure an overall team placing of 4th.  The B team also performed well to finish in 7th overall. This team consisted of Lucy Farrell finishing in 18th, Jade Heath and Jessica Griffiths finished in 21st and 29th respectively.

The U17’s were unfortunate to complete a team leaving Katie Holt to perform alone. Holt obliterated the field finishing in 1st place. She also sabotaged the boys leaving only one to cross the line before her.

The senior women claimed a surprise victory in the team event after the trio put in strong runs all around. Emma Jackson was definitely one of the performances of the day after little cross country training; she didn’t allow the other competitors to race ahead of her. Jackson sat in a comfortable 4th place for the 1st lap, before cruising past 3 of the girls to storm home in 2nd place. Meanwhile Clare Booker and Heather Holt worked together through the race to secure a team victory. Booker improved on her previous performance, giving her 14th placing and Holt crossed the line in 12th.

The U13’s also saw top three team placing after all of the girls showed determination towards the competition. Lucy Holt was the star of the team as she claimed 2nd spot in the race. Holt set off with the leading group and picked off the girls one by one, however after much determination she settled for 2nd place. Jessica Heath also improved on her previous run as she worked through the field to claim 20th place. Although Sarah Griffiths had a shaky start after falling at the line leaving her behind, she didn’t let this stop her she battled on to 21st placing. Finally newcomer Lauren Riley completed the course in 39th place respectively.

Coach Alan Morris said: “All of the girls produced some absolutely superb performances and I am very pleased with each of them. They all showed determination and worked hard to finish where they did. I am particularly pleased with Emma Jackson and Siblings Katie and Lucy Holt as they gained top three placings at the event”
