PARK SERIES - HANLEY PARK & FINAL STANDINGS |
|
|
There were yet again some brilliant junior performances in the the final
race at Hanley Park, which in turn cemented outstanding results in the overall
series tables over the 4 races.
Also very pleasing was the sheer numbers of Stoke AC athletes competing, and
not just in the junior races...
In the U11 Girls Lydia Beech was consistent across the 4 race series as she
gained an excellent second overall, and although Sarah Griffths came 3rd
overall she was very unlucky to suffer illness that without question took
her out of contention for the top spot.
Jessica Griffiths also performed outstandingly well to gain 3rd place
overall in a really tough U13 Girls category.
At U15 Girls level Lucy Hayes ran bravely through illness in the final race
to take a brilliant overall series title. Chloe Hardy also performed really
well to take 3rd overall. This was another category with some very close
finishes and both Stoke competitors showed real determination to keep their
series positions.
In the U11 Boys Nick Stoddard was another consistent top 2 finisher
throughout the season and he fully deserved his 2nd overall. Joel Mann was
3rd overall, but showed in the final race that he can go even better. A
couple of years ago young Robroy Gregory was coming near the back of these
races, but he has stuck to the task and 4th overall was a massive
improvement.
At U13 level Dave Sheldon completed 4 straight wins and the series title as
he fought top U15 Tom Guy for the overall top boy title in every race. After
injury last winter I am sure we will see Dave perform extremely well over
the Country this winter. Not far behind, Macauley Snutch also performed
extremely well to take 2nd overall - he knows that next year he will still
be an U13!
Tom Guy took the U15 boys title with 4 straight wins and can obviously run
as fast as he needs to in this age-group, but he will have to watch out -
both Alex Brecker and Keiren Lee who fished 2nd and 3rd overall in this
series are improving fast. The 4th member of the Griffiths family to compete
all 4 fixtures in the series, Aaron, also showed great consistency to take
4th overall in the series.
In the U17 men Joe Broome improved throughout the season as he took 2nd
overall. Liam Hendricken in 5th overall could have been much better placed
if he had completed all 4 races.
In the senior men ultra-runner Brian Cole used the series as training
sessions and finished a creditable 5th overall. U17 Mike Harding stepped up
a level brilliantly as he finished 8th overall and looks good for the U17
cross country season. Many of our other senior men suffered from having to
juggle fixtures with the Midland Track & Field league and did not
complete all 4 races. Steve Bazell ran consistently in the races he
attended, but perhaps one of the best performances came from newcomer Dave
Lee who improved massively with a great new PB in the final race. Also
running at Hanley was new recruit Seb Duffy from Stroud who will certainly
help our cross country team performances this winter.
In the Masters categories the outstanding performance was that of Ray Ibbs
who showed that he has lost none of his old grit and determination as he
hustled his way to 4 straight wins against very close competition in the
over 55 age group.
Over 40 Gary Castrey would also have definitely taken the series title if he
had completed all 4 races.
And last but not least a special mention for club treasurer Dave Hindley who
has battled back from Heart Surgery to take a brilliant 2nd place overall in
the Over 65s.
