7 June 2009  MIDLAND TRACK & FIELD LEAGUE - DIVISION ONE - RUGBY

First of all many thanks to all those who made the trip to Rugby, on what eventually turned out to be a good day in many ways, despite the initial downpour whilst travelling down. With that thought in mind the 15 men and 7 women that made the trip down, did a superb job on the day with many athletes competing in two or more events. There were a total of 18 individual wins during the day, along with a total of 6 Personnel Best’s and a Season’s Best performance.

Chelsea Cooper, although carrying a slight injury which limited her choice of events repeated her performance from the 1st meeting with wins in the 200M (A) and the long jump (A). Katie Holt demonstrated why she is a force to be reckoned with wins in the 1500M (A) and 800M (B).

There were also wins and a personal best for Katie Anderson in the 200M (B), Emma Jackson in the 800M (A) and an excellent result in the Javelin with Charlotte James winning the (A) string and Natasha Stevens winning the (B) string.

Martin Bartholomew was in tremendous form with personal best’s and wins in the shot put (A), hammer (B) and a season’s best and win in the discus(A). Gregg Nixon was also in great form with double wins in the shot (B) and discus (B), along with excellent performances in the hammer and javelin.

There were also wins for Dave Mountford (A) and Matt Rollings (B) in the triple jump, following their 2nd place performances in the long jump. David Lee produced another good win in the longer 3k steeplechase (B), despite finding the water, following some over enthusiastic support from the middle distance boys.

We again had a number of athletes making their 1st appearance for the club in this league - Brad Garside in the 200M & 100M, James Cooper in the Pole Vault, Brad Garside running a personal best and winning the 200(B) and James also producing a personal best jumping 3.70M in the Pole vault.

Chris Shaw also making his 1st appearance for the senior side produced a personal best in the 200M (A).
Mark Cooper showed that he was on his way back from recovery, producing a set of convincing vaults of a much shortened run up to win the (A) Pole Vault.  Seb Duffy was also in outstanding form producing a new personal best in the 3000M, despite competing in the 800M earlier.

Thanks to all those who have competed and especially those who have helped with the officiating. As you can see from the results every point really does count, and the next match at Bath which is on the 4th July will be a crucial match, with only 1 point separating 1st and 6th place.

If you can help any anyway by being an official or by competing your team mates would appreciate any help that you could give.

We really need to increase the size of the women’s team, especially in the sprint and field events.

Please contact the women’s team manager Alan Morris or for the men myself Steve Shubotham.
