17 January 2009 NORTH MIDLANDS CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE - NOTTINGHAM

A superb final fixture of the North Midland Cross Country League saw many Stoke AC athletes produce fine performances as the cross country season enters a crucial stage.

The outstanding performance of the day was set by Emma Jackson taking the scalp of Tara Kryzwicki in the senior event. Over the demanding three lap 6K + course Emma gradually reeled in two seasoned senior performers to run out clear winner at the finish. Her performance demonstrates increasing confidence over the country and significant improvement in her strength and endurance. This performance sets up an intriguing confrontation in next weeks Midland Championships.

Kate Holt completed four wins on the trot leaving all her rivals in her wake and finishing the race with only 2 U15 boys ahead of her. Not surprisingly Kate took the overall individual U17 award and will now set her sights on the highest success at the coming championship and schools events.

In the U20 race Heather Holt continued her return to good form after an enforced layoff in the summer. Finishing 7th in the senior race and 1st U20 secured Heather overall individual silver and is testament to her dedication and tenacity in working back to full fitness.

Lucy Holt secured a third individual medal for the Holt clan by finishing in second place on the day with another superbly judged race. Adrift of second place at the end of the first lap Lucy plugged away at the gap up the climb and finished with a spirited sprint to snatch the second spot. Lucy has shown great determination in her first year of cross country and despite her diminutive size she has shown that she can be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

In all a very enjoyable league with Stoke bringing home three individual medals courtesy of the Holtmeisters, and finishing with an overall 3rd team in the U13, 4th in the U15 and 5th in the senior age group. Well done to the whole squad and thanks to the parents for their support.
