Report from Heather Holt
City of Stoke AC superstar Katie Holt clinched the Under 17 women's Inter
county title last weekend at Cofton Park, Birmingham. Holt who represented
Staffordshire took the front from the gun along with Bedfordshire's Emily
Wallbank. The girls were neck and neck for the majority of the race; however
Holt dug in at the final stage and out-sprinted Wallbank to take the title
in 19.00. She said: "I am very happy with the win; I was not expecting
it at all. I went out there just to run the race and to see how things went.
I am delighted."
In the Under 13's category younger sister Lucy Holt also put in a star
performance on the hilly course. Holt finished in a respectable 15th place
in a time of 11.36. Other City of Stoke athletes representing Staffordshire
included, first time U13 runner Tasha Stone who finished in 103rd place, U17
Sammy-Jo Daley Davies who crossed the line in 100th place and senior athlete
Emma Jackson who finished 99th.
Overall, all of the girls who represented Staffordshire performed extremely
well and should be proud of their achievements.
Report from Natasha Clowes
On Saturday 13th March the UK Inter-Counties
Cross Country Championship took place at Cofton Park, Birmingham and the Stoke
AC girls triumphed once again.
Over the gruelling 8,000 metre course, Emma Jackson and Clare Booker
battled their way through the 265 competitors in the Senior Women's race
to finish, Jackson a creditable 99th, and Booker a magnificent 149th.
In the U17s, Katie Holt achieved an admirable result, finishing in 1st
place to become U17 UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Champion! It was a
fantastic race applauded by all present. Sammey Jo Daley Davis also
competed in this race to finish an exceptional 100th in her first year in
this age group.
The U13 team for Staffs County contained 5 Stoke AC girls. They all did
magnificently in their first UK Inter-Counties race, with the youngest Holt
sister, Lucy crossing the line in 15th place, Tasha Stone following not
far behind her in 103rd, then Natasha Clowes in 108th with Jessica Heath
following close behind in 110th position, these 3 separated by only 4
seconds. Meghan Cogan also ran strongly to complete the course in 182nd
position. The team result of 17th is to be highly commended.
Jessica Griffiths was our lone runner in the under 15 girls, completing
the course in the commendable position of 278th.
All in all a great day with fabulous results and lots of sunshine. Well
