5 November 2011 NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY RELAYS - MANSFIELD

There were some excellent performances at a wet muddy Mansfield.

Top individual performance came from the rapidly improving U17 Lucy Hayes as she stormed to 4th overall on the first leg, the 7th fastest individual on the day, and led the U17 team to 26th place.

Top Stoke AC team on the day were the U15 Girls A team who finished an excellent 6th. Lucy Holt started the ball rolling with a great 5th on the first lap, with excellent performances from Tasha Stone and Megan Cogan to pretty well maintain their position through-out the race. Showing the strength in depth in coach Alan Morris's squad the B team came in a great 25th place.

The U13 Girls produced an excellent performance in their first competition at this level as they finished 14th in a big field, with India Mellor as fastest Stoke AC competitor on the first leg.

The U15 Boys ran consistently through-out the race with fastest lad in the team being Lindon Evans on the first leg, as they finished well inside the top half of the field.

U17 Man Callum Hulme put in a superb performance to gain 14 places as he also ran faster than his U20 club mates! With consistent runs from Dave Sheldon and Sam Botham the team finished in 18th place out of 81 teams.

Top senior woman was U20 Kate Holt who passed 21 runners on her way into the top 10, before passing the baton to GB 800m International Emma Jackson, in her first race of the winter, who came home in 8th overall. It should also be noted that lead-off runner Amy Mellor is only 17 as she put in a great performance against the senior women on the first leg. This bodes really well for the future of the women's team.

The U20 men with a fastest time from Alex Brecker on the first leg, know they should have gone better, although this was one of the strongest fields at the event. Hopefully they are now keen to show how they can really run in the Birmingham League next week!

The senior men put in an appearance for the first time in a few years and it was great to see Pete Benyon back in a Stoke AC vest after a few years out of the sport. Times might look slow, but by this time the course was well and truly a quagmire!
