City of Stoke athletes and teams compete in Track & Field, Cross Country and Road competitions at Local, Regional and National level. No other local club, and very few in the country, offer such a wide range of opportunities to compete. We have a growing number of athletes who have gone on to represent England and Great Britain as Juniors and Seniors.
We offer team competition in the following leagues:-
Track and Field
Midland Track and Field League
Available for men and women aged under 17 to senior. Four competitions at approximately monthly intervals from the beginning of May to August on either a Saturday or Sunday. The men’s and women’s teams are managed separately but compete as a single team. A full range of track and field events is available at each fixture. It is expected that athletes compete for the Club when selected to do so. Transport is provided from Northwood Stadium at a very reasonable cost and all athletes and parents are encouraged to travel on the coach so that we arrive as a team.
Youth Development League
Lower Age Group – for athletes in the under 13 and under 15 age groups.
Upper Age Group – for athletes in the under 17 and under 20 age groups.
A minimum of three competitions for each league between April and June on either a Saturday or Sunday with an opportunity to progress to the Regional and National finals depending on performance. The men’s and women’s teams are managed separately but compete as a single team. A full range of track and field events is available at each fixture. Other Competitions
In addition to the league competitions all athletes are strongly encouraged to compete in their county, regional and national competitions. We have men’s and women’s team managers who collate details, collect entry fees and support each fixture on the day.
As a club we also strongly encourage our young athletes to compete in competitions organised by their schools whether that be indoor, cross country or track and field. In the 2006 English Schools Track and Field Championships Stoke AC athletes won 8 medals, 5 of which were gold – the best results for any one athletics club in the country
We would very much welcome athletes of any standard from across the Midlands who would like to compete for us. If you are interested please contact: secretary@stokeac.org.uk
