Our first open track and field meeting sponsored by Realis Estates Ltd took place on 1st April 2017 at Northwood Stadium. Over 400 individual entries in a full range of track and field disciplines were contested on a relatively calm if not cool spring day. Northwood is often portrayed as a “windy” venue, although in my experience any stadium is affected by strong winds from time to time, however on the 1st of April, and yes this is no April fools joke, the calm conditions enabled many to turn in good early season performances. The meeting was well organised thanks to the willing field and track officials who kept the event on timetable throughout the day.
One parent sent this comment ” Thanks for a wonderful day yesterday, very well organised and everyone was so helpful, a great start to the season.”
It was pleasing to see so many field event athletes taking advantage of the conditions, 16 hammer throwers across the age groups produced a good standard of competition and 58 long jumpers stirred up the sand.
We would like to thank all the officials who gave their time to make the event such a success and Realis Estates Ltd for their generous sponsorship.
Although there were many good performances by club athletes, top performer from a club perspective was Rhianne Moore Martin in the U17 women hammer who produced a new club record with the 3k implement.
