Report Midland League Abingdon Sunday 05/06/22

06 Jun 2022 | BY Ross Connor

The second Midland League T&F League meeting took place on Sunday 05 June.

It would be easy to focus on the negatives but that would not do justice to the efforts of the athletes and volunteer officials who travelled for 5 hours to represent our Club at this meeting. I will leave the readers to reflect on the outcome and how as individuals they could have contributed.

As team manager my personal thanks, and also thanks on behalf of the Club go to Niamh Bould, Katie Williams, Lucy Donnelly, Emma Taylor, Kate Holt, Alec Batila Mountsompa, Owen Sproston, Dan Hilditch, Seb Duffy our TEAM. This small band of dedicated athletes filled as many events as they were allowed to fill and produced performances which resulted in the Club finishing in 4th place, yes 4th place !!!!! and remaining out of the relegation zone. A huge achievement. In every respect the performance of the few far out- weighed the disappointment at the lack of commitment from other quarters.

Performance of the day goes once again to Kate Holt winning the combined men’s and women’s 3000m race in a time of 9:04.84. Once again Kate set the standard and rewrote the record books, a Midland League record, a Division 2 record, a personal best by 11 seconds and smashing her own Club record by 11 seconds. Congratulations Kate!!!! it was a joy to watch for the TEAM and the small band of parent supporters who made the long journey to Abingdon.

My thanks also to the VOLUNTEER officials, Bill Dixon, Tania Brecker, Iris Morris, Kevin Sproston, Lee Bould and Joey Courchene without whom we would be unable to compete in this league.

Next meeting is Sunday 17th July at Telford, where will you be on the 17th July??
